0245 - Miss Phipps
Added 2023-08-10 08:00:01 +0000 UTCLike Dr J Loren Pryor, Miss Phipps is designed as another potential recurring face for Springfield Elementary, and is soon forgotten. I can see the appeal - the idea of a school nurse who overreacts to every slight hiccup a child might have is a good base for some wacky scenarios, especially when paired against a Bart-type who will take advantage of her hypochondriac nature.
But perhaps there is not much that can be done with this concept, as after her second minor speaking appearance in "Kamp Krusty", she is mainly limited to background appearances.
In "The PTA Disbands" in season 6, she can be seen with blue hair.
And then ONE EPISODE later, in "Round Springfield", she has been replaced as the school nurse by Lunchlady Doris, due to budget cuts. Clearly, this strike did not go as well as they had been hoping.
Phipps' next notable appearance is a flashback to Bart's first school day (in "Lisa's Sax"), an intentional throwback to the early days of the show.
After this, she is seen in a couple of background appearances, but crucially, not in the school, perhaps confirming that she no longer works there. I hope she found a new job.
