Weekly devlog!
Added 2019-06-13 02:07:24 +0000 UTCHi all! I'm happy to report that this week I let people try this new prototype and the feedback was well received, especially compared to the direction I was going before the pivot. This gives me a lot more confidence I'm headed in the wrong direction.
The main complaint I got on the new prototype is the way the energy system works. You have energy to do 3 things in a day, but every time you visit a location it subtracts energy. This made it frustrating to explore and complete quests so I've changed it. Energy is no longer depleted from travel, but only specific events.
I'm not really looking for any more feedback on the game for a week or two, because I got enough to direct me, but if you're a pledge and you really want to try it out, let me know! Otherwise, it shouldn't be more than a week or two before I need more feedback.
Here's the week's devlog:
- If you have a fishing pole, you can fish at the river and get a fish
- When you first meet Mia, she'll hiss at you and will be unnamed.
- Bug: If you catch a fish, the game crashes. Talk to the library dev about this. (remove required keyword) - This is a bug in the library I'm using but there's a work around. In the next version of the library, this bug will be fixed.
- Put the quest tracker HUD behind the map
- When you bring catnip to Mia, she'll appear.
- Report back to Eva after meeting the Mia
- Eva has a clothing skin (so it can be taken off) - I wanted this very early version to have at least some nudity, so I decided to make a scene where if you go to the bathroom at night, you catch Eva in there getting ready to bathe.
- Create a bathroom background/location
- You can catch Eva naked in the bathroom if you visit at night.
- If you catch Eva naked in the bathroom, she says something.
- You can talk to Eva about seeing her naked in the shower
- Once Mia reveals herself, you can no longer click on the button to call out to her.
- NPCs should have different colored text from the player.
- It should be possible for characters to move to the left side or the right side of the screen, not just the center.
- Olivia shows up at the general store.
- Make the horizontal center of each character align with their nose
- Feels like Olivia is further away from the left edge than Eva is from the other - These last two are just fixes for where the characters stand in the scene.
- Jessie should be in the general store
- Kira should be in the bakery
- "Hannah" can appear in the pet shop - These quotes are there because I don't have their sprites done yet so I'm reusing other characters for them temporarily.
- "Amy" can appear in the bar
- "Luna" can appear at the river
- Make sprites larger
- After Mia reveals herself, you can talk to her whenever you visit the alley.
- Keep track of total plants grown.
- Your second crop is rotten and starts the fly trap quest
- If you knock on Tink's door before starting her quest, she shoes you away.
- You can visit the alley and talk to Mia about fly traps.
- When you buy cat food from the pet store and the scrap metal quest is active, get a new entry to say to bring it to Mia.
- When you bring the cat food to Mia, have some dialogue where she gives you scrap metal for it.
- When you bring the scrap metal to Tink, there is dialogue and she gives you a fly trap
- When you bring Eva the fly trap, she thanks you and tells you this should reduce the amount of rotten crops.
- You can tell Eva about Tink once you learn her name.
- Write a readme for the game.
- Bug for plural crops - This was just a text error. It would say, "You grew a nice catnip!" Now it says something like, "You grew some catnip."
- Build the game.
- Limit FPS to a sensible number - Yeah so someone reported slow performance and it was because the game was running at 900+ FPS. I've limited it to around 60.
- There should be a wait icon
- There should be a "wait" button.
- You don't lose energy for traveling to locations
- You should be able to use the energy icon in text mesh pro.
- Center the energy icon in text. - I plan to have certain choices inform you that it will drain energy, that way you can strategically decide whether or not you want to proceed.
That's this week's work! I hope you're all doing great. Let me know if you have any questions.
