A Conflict in First Contact Protocols:

"When the USS Hood falls through a handy wormhole and meets a Boink Guard patrol cutter, communications and translation specialist M'Ress is selected to open contact with these strange new short and fuzzy aliens, due in part to her background in anthropology and comparative history, all of which is a very elaborate justification for M'Ress to meet a Delos or Foozle."

I went slightly overboard on it. With all the heat that the mini-skirted female uniforms from the original series took for being skimpy, the joke was too good to pass up.

In other news, I have decided the purple Foozle captain shall be hereafter known as "Captain Passion."
