Added 2017-03-01 21:01:15 +0000 UTCI didn't get much new modeling work done on Starship Awesome last month, owing to numerous real world interruptions. However, I did manage to snag a free afternoon to mess around with some special FX concepting.
This was an attempt to see how close I could get to a classic Glen Larson "ship in space" shot. 2-point lighting setup, star filter on the engines, some film grain and blur, and a touch of deinterlace and chromatic abberation for that dubbed from videotape look.

It's amazing how damaging an image with noise and blur can actually make it look more realistic.
