Familiar Faces (Special Edition)

So I've deviated a bit from the RM VR conversion to port Familiar Faces. I'd been handed off the project some time ago but never got around to doing it. With the whole quarantine and self-isolation concerning Covid-19 I've had a little more time to take a second look. Turns out porting the SKSE plugin to SE was pretty simple and I just had to convert the assets from LE to SE. Next up should be a VR version, assuming that all the other dependencies of this mod have been ported to VR. e.g. JContainers; I was not really sold on the whole JContainers dependency and there's a disturbing amount of Papyrus code in Familiar Faces that should have been native functions in the custom plugin but rewriting this may be for another day. I started off with the basic port and just getting the mod to work at all.

Since I don't really have a place for alpha/beta testing before I re-create the Familiar Faces page in Skyrim SE, I'll post one here.

I just found out about this now. its been years since i used the original mod and was hoping that there was an SE version available. glad to see there is :) even if im 2 years late lmao

Hey there, just wanted to let you know that the mod seems to have stopped working with the release of Skyrim anniversary edition. JContainers isn't being found which is causing an error. Also i'm not spawning in with the portal stone. D:

Miss Amy Wuff

Please rewrite this mod, thank you!

Heya. I love this mod so much, and it has brought me some of my best memories. Was looking forward to getting my partner's character on my account to travel together. However, this plugin destabilizes any otherwise stable save I have once the follower starts following me. The saves will enter an infinite black screen with sound after loading, to be most specific. Only once the ported character starts actually following the player character. I don't have a lot of cash to spare, but I made this account just to tell you that I really hope you continue working on this, and until you do, I guess I'll learn to create my own followers and eagerly await ff's return. Please don't stop working on this, I believe in you.

Update: it works if I set the character to marry player

The mod works almost perfectly for the most part, and you’ve done a good job recreating it. However there is an issue whereas when the characters appear in another world rather than become followers they are just NPCs that I can stop in the road unless they are set to be enemies in which case that works perfectly

as much as i love the concept of this mod and the clear effort put into it, it's nigh unusable with multiple characters. chargen files keep getting deleted for no reason, and it keeps spewing out that error that permissions aren't set when they actually are. i love the mod but in its current state i can't use it

Yeah go ahead and give that dll a try. I can't guarantee it's the same crash but worth a shot. Just replace the dll yes.

Hi! I think I have a similar problem to some other people, in that the game started to consistently crash when loading from the main menu after installing this app. It happened after I had recruited my character, modified him with body and body paint overlays as those settings were not saved in the alcove, and then played for a bit, before recruiting him as a steward and dismissing him as a follower. As I then tried to leave the house, an infinite loading screen appeared, and as I rebooted the game and tried to load the last save again, the crashing started. I extracted a dump file and analysed it in WinDbg and I get the same error as I saw Vinny Pazkale got in his dump file: NULL_CLASS_PTR_READ_c0000005_skee64.dll!Unknown I saw that you offered him a patch for the skee64.dll file, would that be the fix for anyone with this kind of error? Do you just replace the skee64.dll file with the one you supplied? And is the cause of the error the fact that I changed the character's appearance after he was summoned (I used SAM Morphs for RaceMenu which pulls up the body options of RaceMenu for any NPC with a power), or is it having these kinds of body overlays in the load order at all that may cause the error? Would support for body and tattoo overlays be added to the mod? As I understood, they were meant to be carried over in the LE Mod. Thank you for your great work, this mod is fantastic, and I really hope it will be compatible with my other mods!

This says its special edition but the ESP is set in Form 43. If this is special edtion it should be form 44 as form 43 can cause issues down the road with your save file. Going to see if i can save it in form 44 then test the file to see if there are any issues with doing so. Also thank you for the MOD. I have been dying for this mod to become a thing in SE. I hope all the bugs are worked out in time. UPDATE: When saved to form 44 it fails to save characters.

i have no way to get into the shrine

yeah it shows up in the MCM but i dont have a portal stone

.NET Framework crashes are not useful to me other than telling me it's in a particular module as these don't have symbols, I would need an actual crash dump: C:\Users\%USER%\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\SKSE\Crashdumps I would also need to know the file date of skee64.dll so I can match the symbols

Any game related bugs are going to be bugs present in Familiar Faces as is, the port didn't change any of the functionality or bugs it already had.

I am having the same issue as Avery Niceguy. After some time, when I load a save it eventually crashes to desktop. According to .netscript framework it was pointing towards an issue with skee64.dll from Racemenu. I kept installing older versions of Racemenu until eventually I got to one for the previous version of Skyrim. When I loaded a save with this version, it broke Familiar Faces and I was able to load without crashing. Here is the crash log: https://pastebin.com/yv3gsziP My mod list: https://pastebin.com/nPyxF3m9 And my load order: https://pastebin.com/spZPdXci

First off, thank you so much for the effort into creating this port. I've wanted to create a custom adventuring party in my Skyrim since day one, and this is just wonderful. That said, I'm seeing some unusual glitches since trying this out, with things that were working just fine without it and no other changes, not sure if they're unique to my setup, but they might be worth investigating: - On the character I was intending to use as a primary, his weight scale constantly resets to 1/10th of the Racemenu value I had set (from a .90 to .09). I can use showracemenu to reset the weight, but after taking two to three steps, it drops again. This started after taking another male character generated by Familiar Faces as a follower (it was working just fine having taken a single female character via Familiar Faces as a follower, even with four other conventional followers active). - For some bizarre reason, I get the follower dialogue on two of my other characters (non-caster combat builds), but a High Elf mage character has no dialogue options whatsoever and greets my main the same way any other non-interactive NPC would. Tested by going to another character with no follower history and the mage as the only Familiar Faces follower loaded in, and still no dialogue options. Even stranger, the mage was the second Familiar Faces follower exported, and the first, third, and fourth are all functioning normally for dialogues.

Okay so update, we managed to find the JContainers folder so he deleted that and then tried reinstalling everything and now one of the characters is stuck-in-the-mud outside Lakeview Manor and there’s still no menu for the mod config. If we go to the shrine and back again the guy starts running through the floors.... not really sure what to do here

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone can help us out. We’ve been using (and loving) the Familiar Faces Mod but it seems to have gone a bit awry at some point and we’ve tried to removed the mod to reinstall but there’s traces of it and it doesn’t seem to be working as planned. In Mod Configuration it says $Familiar Faces but there’s no settings available. Thank you guys

I noticed the errors as well but I think they might have also occurred with the original mod. The errors didn't seem to have any actual effect on the loading of the mod but they were somewhat annoying to see. The errors might have been intentional, FF does some questionable things underneath. This mod is not known for being particularly stable in SkyrimLE. Jcontainer is definitely needed for this mod and I don't really see myself having the time to actually rewrite those portions, basically the entire mod is built around it.

There is a way to fix this until it is fixes in the new version (I don't if you unlocked the advanced user perk already, so I write it down in detail): - Go to the folder where your character is save by this mod (like C:\User\[your username]\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\JCUser\vMYC). There you should find the following file: [Your characters name].char.json - Make a savety copy of that file on your desktop 'cause you're gonna edit it. - Open the original file with Notepad++ or the normal notpad or any other text editing program. - Search for "NINodeData". This is the place where the scale of bones are stored. There you should find something like "NPC L Clavicle [LClv]" with a scale of 0.5 or something. Change the number to your liking. Or even remove that section, but I don't recommend it unless you know what you are doing. Do that for "NPC R Clavicle [LClv]" (right side) as well. - When you're done, save the file and start the game to see if you succeeded. If not, copy your savety file from the Desktop to the folder with your character (overwrite => yes) and start over again and try not messing up this time. If you've done it right, it should work. ;)

My only issue with this mod seemed to be an issue with Jcontainers. When I loaded any save and opened the console I would see a bunch of errors of missing objects and such and I would often have a soft crash loading any save for the first time. (infinite loading screen, exit out and reload the save would let me play) Decided to keep this installed but shelf it until I need it. You've mentioned above, something about a Jcontainer requirement possibly not being needed so i'll keep my eyes out for that. Thanks for working on this btw, hands down one of the best mods available. :)

My character also has arms like a T-Rex (small arms). I'm using the XPMSE skeleton and the CBBE body.

Woah this is out? Amazing. Gotta give it a try. Thanks for the work you put into this. =)

To be completely honest, because Familiar Faces and Race menu wasn’t ported over to VR -I stopped playing. Thanks for all the hard work throughout these projects, like youtubers/modders-don’t worry about finishing the familiar face port asap, many people don’t understand the hours we go through. Again thanks pal!

I'm having some serious backtalk from this mod and I'm not sure what the culprit is. Nothing has changed in my load order and everything was working perfectly as of last night. Loading the game has all my characters still there but unfortunately their voices have changed to the same courier voice. The MCM has nothing in it anymore and I have to load the save twice in order for the followers I have to show up with the names I gave them instead of Male/Female Dummy 01 etc. I was so excited to find a port for this mod that worked but now it seems I must have done something to mess it up. I haven't had any CTDs as of yet and FF followers behave normally. What could I do to try and fix this issue?

Try deleting the SKSE co-save, or loading that save with without SKSE running. It might be the co-save that is corrupted, or extra data from JContainers. I assume by "no longer able to load the [save]" you mean you crash loading it. Without a crash dump I can only speculate rather than give a definitive answer as to what component of this mod is problematic.

I assume this is happening because of a conflict, since I have seen no one else with this problem, but since installing this, I can't go farther than 30ish minutes (I'm not sure if it is a certain amount of time or a certain amount of saves) before I am no longer able to load the most recent saves of that character. I can confirm this mod is the issue because games I've started without it work fine, however disabling this mod doesn't fix the issue on broken saves.

When I copy my character, the arms come out half the size. I did use XPMSE in racemenu to change my character, but not that much. Reset my skeleton. In racemenu and arms still remained small. Custom race and skeleton path.

So I saved 2 characters without problem, but after the 3rd, their faces just looks nothing like the character. Am I messing something up?

I found a little iusse that can make a save game being corrupted. Familiar Faces does not save any bodypaint, and if you try to add the paints with the Tatto plugin from EFF, you can keep playing, but before or after the save game will be corrupted and will cause a CTD when trying to load it. Doesen't seems to happend with vanilla or standalone followers.

Excited for the VR version. I have resubbed!! Keep up the great work Expired!

Which other requirement has the mod? I used Jcontainer 4.1.2 from Nexus, but it won´t load the alcoven. MCM is also not acting well. Getting the error message that it can´t parse Jcon file to vMYC_config.json. That file is also missing the wanted folder. Is that the correct Jcontainer mod to use it with?

Been playing around with this. The only real issue I've run into isn't catastrophic, but body overlays aren't saving to the shrine for my characters. Face overlays and anything else appearance wise are, but those seem to get left behind. Don't know if it's the mod or an issue on my end.

Having an issue with this, crash to desktop soon as it starts "saving" a character in the alcove. It's probably a conflict with one of the many plugins I have in my game...

SuzanoSho

fyi for the male default voice when you try to trade with him there is no voice line and it won't go into the trade menu.

This is a port of the original. I haven't had time to go over the V2 code as it was unfinished and I ran into a bunch of issues just trying to get it to function.

So is this a fixed up port of the original FF, or a pre-release version of FF 2 for SE?

I literally. Love you.

JContainers does indeed have a fully working VR plugin.
