DarqUI v3.1.2.9: Playing It Safe

Several of you already know from our conversations that I'm something of a privacy buff, and when it comes to DarqUI I'm always on the lookout for every possible chance to sink the plans of even the most motivated attacker.

I'm already happy with DarqUI's security methods, but earlier in the year I had an idea for digging one more pothole to trip up the cyber-snoops. It's rare when it happens, but in this case tighter security also improves the update process on your end as well as mine. Smoother interactions for us; more frustration for would-be attackers. That's what you call a win-win.

You'll get the new smarts when you upgrade to version 3.1.2.9 of the utility and version 1.2.0.6 of the notifier. For now using the previous version won't throw an error, but I'm tentatively planning to publish one more utility version later this year in which we switch to the new method 100%.

The new utility and notifier are downloadable now at eq2interface.com.  Patrons can use the utility to edit recent feature additions including:

Stat Monitor

• Overcap audibles
• Stat logic and overcap Command fields

Shutdown (Camp)

• Auto-Inventory control

Inventory/Transport Shortcuts

• Added right-click House ID to Clipboard (see Housing Shortcuts article for details)

More improvements

• Inventory parsing adjusted to recognize items logged with a certain combination of attributes (thanks Marrywine)
• Added Tarinax to the internal backup server list
• Additional error correction and logging for private font lists (Themes)
• More explicit logging for Census server errors
• Light Mode tweaks in the utility

DarqUI Unified Notifications v1.2.0.6

Notifier v1.2.0.5 was published to Darq Siders just a few days ago to comply with an unexpected but beneficial change from one of our providers. Since then I have also outfitted v1.2.0.6 with the new "pothole" (see above) and tweaked several elements of the new dark mode to be more compatible with the utility's dark mode.

The same advice applies here: If you use the notifier app, make a note to upgrade to v1.2.0.6 soon, so you can take advantage of the improved security and update process. I'm hoping that free and premium DarqUI users will go ahead and upgrade so I can put the older method out to pasture in the fall of this year with a minimum of inconvenience.
