The old Magaki heya, where Terunofuji started was absorbed into Isegahama, because of ill health of the owner.

2025-01-26 14:02:33 +0000 UTCCorrect me if I'm wrong, but Isegahama had, at some point, two foreings (Terunofuji and Harumafuji?), but that's because two stables became one and they made the exception.

2025-01-21 18:03:06 +0000 UTCThis is all the proof you need that you can never underestimate ANY opponent and you can NEVER let your foot off the gas. Not saying Hoshoryu did these things by the way, just musing. Congrats Shodai!

2025-01-20 05:02:38 +0000 UTCEveryone thought Terunofuji was the final boss, when in fact it was Nopedai.

2025-01-19 18:52:47 +0000 UTCIf I remember correctly he was always streaky even at ozeki. It was like one tournament he wouldn't try go 6-9 than the next tournament get 9 wins

2025-01-19 17:33:08 +0000 UTCI will be there on Tuesday, i hope Kinbozan and Takerufuji are fighting Ozeki then.

2025-01-19 17:25:46 +0000 UTCAs far as I remember, he has had some foot problems in the past, combined with a little chaos in his heya (losing his coach/ some kind of succession battle). He is still capable (big, strong, mobile) but extremly streaky.

2025-01-19 17:23:22 +0000 UTCIf he wins out and looks dominate I think it’s still possible.

2025-01-19 15:39:00 +0000 UTCWhy couldn't shodai do that more when he was an ozeki

2025-01-19 14:46:39 +0000 UTCI don’t think he’s ready, guys. The path to Yokozuna is not an easy one…

2025-01-19 13:48:07 +0000 UTCHoshoryu not likely to finish any better than 12-3 though, he’s never beat Kotozakura and Onosato in the same tournament before, and Abi always gives him trouble. Hope he’ll be able to manage it somehow though, would be awesome to see him win out the tournament

2025-01-19 13:38:15 +0000 UTCKinbozan hasn’t fought anyone good yet, you know your schedule has been soft when Tamawashi is the most formidable opponent you’ve had. His record will level out this week.

2025-01-19 13:34:08 +0000 UTCI guess the stack of envelopes incentivized Shodai enough to perform in a way he is capable of. I am not anymore certain that even 13-2 championship is enough for Hoshoryu since he has now lost to two Maegashira ranked rikishi. For Yokozuna it means giving out two Kinboshi. For me 13-2 would be enough regardless of to whom he loses, but it is the Sumo Association that makes the decision.
