2025-01-16 19:26:11 +0000 UTCAs for this match I cannot believe that Hoshoryu just kept on trying the same thing when it clearly was not working. Why did he go straight into belt when he has practically lost the last 5 matches to Atamifuji when trying this same thing (I do not consider the last basho a win for Hoshoryu but rather Atamifuji screwing up himself with isamiashi). Hoshoryu has clearly learnt to use oshi-sumo and Daiesho and Abi showed pretty clearly that it is effective against Atamifuji. Why not try that?

2025-01-16 19:21:23 +0000 UTCThere is a story in Mainichi that Terunofuji is retiring according to a source from Sumo Association. https://mainichi.jp/english/articles/20250116/p2g/00m/0sp/035000c

2025-01-16 19:12:55 +0000 UTCDespite how much I like to see Hoshoryu lose. I'm feeling a bit sad for him on this one. He was doing so well. The basho is still his though, if he can shrug this one off and hold on to that determination he's been showing us.

2025-01-16 18:59:09 +0000 UTCLet's see the Ukrainians in Juryo! DAMN! Definitely a day of upsets! ALL Ozeki down! This basho has turned into quite the free-for-all! Very exciting for all the fans!

2025-01-16 14:21:52 +0000 UTCThe JSA should just force Teru to retire at this point.

2025-01-16 14:04:39 +0000 UTCWell, at least a Isegahama man fought in the last match and won. Heck, he even made the Yokozuna challenge much harder for Hoshoryu, which in all likelyhood was the purpose of Terunofuji fighting in this basho, challenging the Yokozuna contenders!
