2024-09-10 19:07:38 +0000 UTCSigh, I fear you are right! Takakeisho was a long-time Ozeki (5 years) and as far as I have read, he already has elder stock secured. Retiring now would put him into a class with other longterm Ozeki (Goeido for example), who upon losing Ozeki, or the easy repromotion chance, retired instead of continuing as a rank and filer.

2024-09-10 13:36:34 +0000 UTCAfter all the injuries plaguing him, making him yoyo from kadoban and back, and now actually losing the chance at the Ozeki rank, I wouldn't be surprised if he announces a retirement. I doubt he'll ever be in a good enough condition to return to Ozeki at a later date.
