Highlight style or individual bouts

I got a lot of positive feedback on the quick, Jason-highlights style I used for Day 9 with my DVR... so the question is, do you prefer individual bouts or would you prefer more 10 minute videos that contain 3 to 4 matches per video and less salt throwing?

Comments

I prefer single bouts just for convenience but I dont mind the highlights that you've done for this basho.

Brady

I like the single bouts the best, but don't need it for every bout. Maybe pick a few of the more interesting or popular bouts per day to do the longer videos on and speed run the others.

Derek R.

I prefer single bouts most of the time, but I also enjoy highlights. I watch Natto and then come here to see your reactions to the matches."

Leon

What distinguishes your videos from others is the quality of the commentary. The quick, DVR videos only offered half the commentary as the individual match videos. The only thing I don’t like about the Patreon videos is that they won’t autoplay from one to the next. But that is a small issue.

Randy Wyatt

That said, when necessary I'm completely fine with the expedited format as the alternative.

Jimappleton

I greatly prefer individual, for two reasons. We get to linger with both your own and importantly NHK commentary.

Jimappleton

this is what I'm leading toward as well...

Jason Harris

John McMillan sums it up: Jason 's full match coverage is different because of his "buddy on the couch" commentary., may it long survive! Plus there exist numerous official and inofficial highlight channels for the sumo enthusiast.

I like both but I tend to lean a bit more towards DVR highlights. It has more of that "watching sumo with a friend" feeling. I really like the current blend where we get highlights either if you couldn't get regular coverage the day before or if you have extra time

I watch Natto's highlights in the morning before work, and often there will be a match that'll make me think, "I'd love to hear Jason's reaction to that one!" And then I'll look for that match in your videos at the end of my workday, plus usually a couple of other ones. You give sumo a "knowledgeable and enthusiastic buddy on the couch" vibe that nobody else does. The highlights videos are enjoyable too for the same reason, but I wouldn't want those to be INSTEAD of the the individual matches. My favourite moments in your individual match videos are when you get surprised by an outcome, and we get to hear your high-pitched "OOOOOOH!" followed by your low-pitched "WOOOWWWW!"

John McMillan

I'm a fan of the individual bouts. I love hearing the mixture of your commentary and the NHK commentary along with the rikishi's pre-match rituals.

Carlin Eng

Maybe you could show the yoko and ozeki.. but shorten some others.. that 9minute dvr FF was Fire!

Scott Gordon

NHK YouTube does highlights well enough. I appreciate you showing more and giving your commentary and perspective on each match.

D & T Paris

i like seeing the salt throws and listening to your pre-bout insights. so, individual bouts is my preferred format

Jim Bulger

I like both. "Jason highlights" was great, but individual matches feel like they have more gravitas. Maybe individuals on "big" days, and highlights on like midweek bouts.

Dom Guido

My wife used to get angry at me when I fast forwarded through the salt throwing. The build up is part of the match she would tell me. In a world of ever shortening attention spans I love sitting through whole single matches.

Earl Brawley

I liked the Jason Highlights and won't be mad to see more if you decide to go that route or if you need to do it for time constraints reasons again. But I do prefer to see some amount of the pomp and circumstance before the matches as well as the replays after each match.

Dan Dusang

Natto does the highlight style very well. I come here for the longer individual bout format.

Tim Steele

The dvr style was nice but I do enjoy being able to pull up a single match to show friends
