At long last we've just released an epic bumper HOUR LONG video in which myself and a motley crew of suspiciously eager volunteers try each of the unique iconic Japanese dishes at some of the best restaurants Tokyo has to offer.
Featuring Sharla, Connor, Pete, Natsuki, Alex and even Ryotaro, we got to a whopping 12 restaurants, showing you the full buffet of culinary treats awaiting you in Tokyo.
Shot over the course of 10 very intensive days in September, by the end of it I never wanted food again. But then watching this in the edit made me disgustingly hungry and now I want to revisit all the restaurants for round 2.
Over those 10 hot and tiring days we filmed a crazy amount of footage and there were a lot of funny moments that painfully ended up on the cutting room floor.

2024-10-29 23:40:48 +0000 UTCJust spent 11 days in Tokyo and we found a pizza place that we liked so much we had 5 meals there, it is called Savoy in Asakusa, the guy makes it in front of you, Neopolitan style, very simple, was amazed to find good pizza in Japan.

2024-10-27 17:17:52 +0000 UTCA proper sukiyaki is expensive and for many Americans will be close to "pretentious" food, since it highly flashes the speciality beef. A lot of foreigners (from the west) also look down upon hot pots. All over Asia, we have a lot of proper sukiyaki restaurants - featuring cheaper wagyu bred outside Japan (typically Tasmania). And we China-fied these sukiyaki - instead of pure raw special farmed free range egg - we mix that with finely chopped garlic and thinly sliced spring onions. Again, a great cheaper compromise than a buttery A5 wagyu from Kagoshima or Matsuzaka. Kitsune udon/soba is named "fox", because foxes are the messenger of Kami Inari - a very popular Kami among Japanese industrials, because Inari gives blessings in form of harvest, fertility, profit, and wealth. One of the way to attract foxes is said to try luring them with the sweetness of abura age (seasoned fried tofu skin) - which is the main feature of kitsune udon - then you can speak your wishes to the messenger animal of the Kami. Conservely, sushi rice wrapped in abura age is called "Inari zushi" - after the Kami - also a popular offering in shrines dedicated to the Kami.

I grew up in the rural east coast in the us,nd never tasted sushi until i was 30. T h ere were no ethnic restaurants in my lily white town. There in 1970 was the first Chinese restaurant and one pizzeria in our town of 40000. I now have been studying Japanese! What a tough language. Is there a language learning course you can recommend? Unfortunately I am in late stage cancer and I can eat Miso soup and nothing else from your show, but I love it! Your unknown friend, Larry PS Anyhow i wish you consistently post the price you pay.
