About Patreon Fee changes
Added 2017-12-07 21:44:18 +0000 UTCYou may have already heard about the up coming changes in the payments for your pledges, but I'd like to take a moment to address them personally.
Up till now, all payment fees and Patreons cut was taken form the total pledge amount, meaning that you would always be charged the flat amount you initially pledged (bar VAT and similar taxes in certain countries). From now on however, whatever the amount you pledge, Patreon is going to add to that a 2.9% fee and slap another 0.35$ for shits and giggles.
As you can probably tell, I'm not too keen on the idea. While this means they can give the creators more of the cut (95% to be specific), it really fucks up the whole system for you people, especially if you donate a small amounts to many creators. That flat 35 cents is especially egregious then, because if someone was supporting, say, a 100 creators, each for one dollar, they would now be paying almost 40$ extra for nothing!
This is a really bad move in my opinion, and especially so when you consider nothing was mentioned about it, ever. And there isn't much we can do about it.
