Update on Kaiya

 Its been a few days since the incident and while I'm still a nervous wreck I have calmed down a bit.
Her wounds  look pretty nasty but Kaiya's acting better and moving around more like normal. when we took her to the vet one of her lacerations came undone and I was hoping they would stitch it up but they said to just leave it open for now, which totally freaks me out. and keep it clean and it should heal up ok in two to three weeks.

At first I thought the pitbull was a stray or belonged to one of the neighbors, we live in a bad neighborhood and people just don't leash their dogs and we've had close calls before. It turned out this dog did have an owner though I don't know who they are. 

I was asleep at the time this whole thing started so I can only go off of what my brothers told me.

So my brothers father stopped by early in the morning to grab some tools from our shed to work on his car and he brought one of his questionable friends and their dog along with him. They hung out in the shed for awhile and then let the dog out into the backyard to go pee. Which was really stupid cause the backdoor was open and the dog went into the house instead of back to the shed because they weren't paying attention.

My brother Layton was up making a cup of coffee getting ready for work in the morning and this is what he said happened.  After pouring his coffee he went into the living room and saw this strange dog come in from the porch into the living room where he and kaiya were. He said the instant that Kaiya and that other dog looked at each other the fight broke out. Kaiya leaped over the couch and the other dog jumped up at her and they both landed ontop of the weight bench and began tearing into each other. Then the pitbull latched onto Kaiya's neck and wouldn't let go. Layton tried to get them apart but Kaiya was trying so hard to get away that she was dragging him and the other dog across the living room floor which is what caused her skin to tear open.  

Kaiya was screaming and Layton was yelling for help, that's what woke me and my other brother Mason up. I ran out there to see what the hell was going on only to see Layton on the floor trying to pry apart the dogs jaw open and Mason, who for some reason was wearing nothing but a ripped up shirt like a kilt was punching the dog in the face as hard as he could. The whole thing happened so quickly and seemed to take forever at the same time. Finally the dog let go and layton and I grabbed kaiya and ran her to my room to get a look at the damage while Mason dragged the pitbull back into the backyard where the owner and the old man "their father" grabbed the dog and took off like a bat out of hell.
We haven't seen him since.

It was a horrible accident  and an avoidable one but still an accident, The owner of the pitbull couldn't have foreseen this happening but  the old man should have never brought anyone to our house let alone with an unfamiliar dog and then let them into the backyard. So Im holding him liable for paying the vet bills and whatever happens to Kaiya or if the owner of the pitbull tries to sue us.
