Sketches

Varied sketches that I had done in between running around throwing bits of paper at various people and institutions this month.

I'm starting to get the hang of this whole sketching thing again.  I'm starting to use reference again after pouring through the backup library of images I have, as well as revisiting characters again.

Splitscreen 'wearing pants', Ellysathistle showing off her buttnub (gnomes have tails in Felwroth as part of their chaotically feywild nature, hers is a little goaty one), and attempts at figuring out some Javarran markings and jewelry.

Oh, and a horse-skull of course, because I seem to need some kind of skeleton mixed into sketches somewhere :P

So, going forward..

I'll be sending out the notification to the next person on the sketch-list for the $10 tier.  I'm late this month simply due to the whole paperwork thing following my father's passing, but I'll at least get the notification out this month and start on that in the next week or so.

I will also be opening a commission slot next month.  I've got a couple people to go back and ask if they still want work done, but I'll start to roll out a list which I'm deliberately going to keep short as to not just burn myself out right away.  It's been a long while since I've taken on this sort of work so I don't want to get swamped right away, and will ease into a pace that I find comfortable.

That said, figuring out a price range has been a bit of a nightmare.  I've looked over about 20 or 30 artists who I'm kind of as good as.. sort of.  And the price ranges for commissions can range from the low $100 mark to over $800 for paintings.  I'm thinking I might settle on about $300 for the full paintings at 12" x 18" as a base size.  Inked pieces at that size would be around $175 or so, and greyscale rougher sketches would only be around $60 at that size.

This is where things get a little all over the place.  These prices can differ depending on the complexity, the number of characters, if there are any technical or complicated backgrounds, or even if a different size is requested.   This can also differ if people are just looking for a character sheet layout, or if cell-shading is preferred.  This will all be negotiable of course.

Lastly, anyone at the $10 tier at the time of commissioning will get 20% off that price, and anyone at the $5 tier will get 10% off as noted in the membership tiers blurb.

There are other factors, of course.  Things like subject matter and if there are any time constraints etc.  This, again, needs to be more negotiable as I'm still kind of putting out feelers if the prices are in the right ballpark.  It'll take a while for me to figure out this whole commissioned work thing again.

My aim will be to finish the commission I take on.  I'll send out an e-mail when someone is up on the list, send an invoice for half of the payment, and work on it until it can be completed.

I will be working on Patreon art as well in between time on these pieces.  Things like comic-scripting/drawing/posting, sketches, paintings and other things will be posted as ususal, and the inked illustration for one person on the $10 list will also be started that month.

I'll be treating this much like a job.  Just one that I love doing.  5 days a week, I'm gong to be sitting down to put in at least 4 hours.  Probably more if I'm in a real groove and am just rampaging through the art process.

And of course, folks here will be notified of commissions first.

As a note, if I have done black and white art for you before and you would like that coloured, I will be happy to do that (I've got the original 300dpi files in the backup).  This will of course reduce the price even more since it eliminates a large part of the process.  That will be negotiated as I start them though.

So, indeed, this is the steps in the new direction.  Fingers are crossed that this becomes a regular thing I can do :)

Until the next post.

That rabbit gal is awesome and so happy to see more of her! And always appreciate artists who go the distance to attempt those bizarre skulls of animals we adore. And continuing the join the small army of folks excited to see you do commissions again! Your art is and will always be worth waiting for, and I hope this aspect of your 'job' continues to be something you enjoy. Hope we can give you more fun subjects to draw!

Horses are some pretty strange animals. Makes sense that I am one myself. Excited for when you open for commissions. Understandable that its a lot to figure out. Don't undervalue your art though, so many don't charge enough. Your art is very detailed and the little bits of lore and context make each piece complete
