Yeendles - Inkwash

I've been poking away at this picture's colours for a while now, and managed to get the inkwash done this morning over coffee.

The signs are all still temporary, and not everything was detailed out yet, but I've got the basic colours down.

I've got such a massive backlog of things to ink and colour after I finish the patron illustration for this month. I'm definitely far, far ahead on sketches I can pick from to say the least.

I love the little sign advertising "dragon wicks" in the window.

Dark End

It was an oddly organic happening. I had planned it to be a daylight/afternoon scene, but the more I thought about showing off the lights of her shop, the more I started to just err towards adding blues and purples and more muted colours. I admit I really love doing 'light in window' style pictures, so some of my bias is probably showing in this. Either an evening picture as the sun sets quicker these days, or even an early morning picture with the town still waking up. Either way, she's stoked about her little shop :) I have to say I'm jealous if you have shops like this around where you are. My immediate area is just clogged with bars, tattoo parlours, and until recently cheap motels. We're hoping the 'revitalizing' effort they're making pays off, and we can have some walkable shopfronts here again for the first time in years.

She's just _so_ proud of her shop. :) So far, breaking things into daily chunks has worked. Inking one day, doing colours the next, sketching after that. I'm hoping it lasts too, as the grey days of winter have hit here. Less light, more snow, and greyer skies. I'll take as much escape as I can get.

I'm surprised, but delighted you went with an evening scene, because this way the glow of the lamps and candles stand out. I love that the dragon appears to have stopped because he spies a miniature version of himself in the window. Best of all, the signs and wares in the window remind me of a specific local shop near where I live. Not saying which one, at least not yet.

Pixie always makes me smile. If you push yourself too hard, the work will begin to cloy. Breaking it up into various projects seems to help.
