October Races the Sky.

Its a bit hard to believe October is nearly over now. This year the fall has been a bit of a blur for the same reasons its been fairly stressful.

Today marks a month since my father had to head to the hospital. He's out now, and is doing far better than he was even just a week ago.

I guess the month just feels like it's a little more grey since we won't be doing Halloween this year. At least not in the traditional sense. The plagued have spiked the viral numbers here to ridiculous levels for the past couple of months, and its just safer not to have kids sneezing, coughing, and grabbing at candy around here.

But I'm trying to celebrate in little ways. I've got a couple sketches that still need to have some cleanup done that I'll be posting at a point very soon. I'm very sorry that the month has been so quiet. I never like having long lulls between art projects or even writing, but so much of the fuel has been spent on just keeping things running at home.

I thank all of you for your incredible patience during all of this. I'm going to work on balancing getting caught up, and making sure I don't just work myself into a pile of ashes. The art is serving as a nice escape though. A place of gentler happenings, and fallen leaves curling to brown and golds, the skeletal remains of trees reaching towards the heavens and creasing the moon that drifts through their branches.

I was hoping to get a write-up about Berrand posted at some point too. Its proving to be a lot of writing. It turns out he's got a longer past than I realized at first. But it will at least feel good to get things down in writing.

Admittedly, even with October coming to a close, I can 'extend' the fall of Felwroth for a while. The trees here are largely bare (Leefs tend to sleep early here), but there are still brilliant vistas on the lake-coast. Still spirits that roam, and leaves that blow in crisp winds when the sun disappears below the horizon. From Wyclenfaern to the Witch Towns of the ten lanterns north, its still deep in fall, and I'd like to stay there for a little while before snow takes over.

And there will be Halloween there this year. At least SOME place will have candy ;)

Did it hit harder than the first two? My father is due for a third one himself due to his medical condition. I'm hoping to get a third when they open it up to the public. At this point, its likely going to be a 'bi-yearly booster' from here on. We don't get many kids here these days either. Usually about 8 families or so. Less now that the school nearby closed due to lack of enrollment. Not many families with kids remaining. :/ But I can empathize with wanting to be in a quieter, safer and saner place over the winter. Maybe a place that serves tea, and has pastries, and lets you watch the snow fall out of the window.

Trick or treat is good on Felwroth. They all give out full sized candy, and sometimes the pumpkins come alive and chase people.. Well, maybe the latter part isn't great, but still, it's a lovely place this time of year :)

I can only imagine. Places around here are still largely in 'work from home' due to the insane spike we had for the last two months. A friend might be looking at next year before they can go into the office again (barring yet another wave, since people here are still in the 'banging rocks together to make fire' stage of evolutionary understanding). Still, at least there were a few days of falling leefs, amidst the blur of days raging by.

October has been a blur. It sort of slipped away. My wife is going back to the office today, first time since March 2020. It will be weird not having her chattering away at the dining room table.

I got my COVID booster Friday -- I literally don't remember the weekend. I've had one Trick-or-Treater in 43 years. He grew up and moved away years ago. The home he lived in decayed away and was replaced with a nice modular five years ago. The kids in my neighborhood now are as likely to 'Trick' with gasoline as they are with TP. I think I'd like to retreat to a quieter, safer, saner place for the Winter months...

I'm definitely going trick-or-treating in Felwroth this year. Don't forget to light the lantern on the porch!
