I've been having a heck of a time finding the 'inspired drive' to get a digital sketch done for about a week now. While I have been sketching quite a bit, much of it was to just try and keep my mind in a creative space and keep my hands in a practiced space.
While none of it is really worthy of posting and won't be finished, none of it was a waste of time. An artist I admire once said that no amount of sketching, even sketching that doesn't work out, is a waste. It all goes towards keeping skills sharp and getting the chaff out of your head. His advice was invaluable. Instead of lamenting about spending hours scribbling away at things that won't see the light of day, I realize it helps me get to a point where I can finally get a semi-functional sketch done that is worthy of sharing.
This is a rare time that I'm going with an idea entirely anew. I don't know the character herself, other than she's one of the sentinels for her pack. A Khavijas Warrior who's adept at clearing out the ruins of the north that get overrun with the shadow, be it sorcery or not. The wild men of the north were long ago twisted by sorcery, some even able to evoke spellcraft drawn from the dark heart that pulses through lands that once belonged to the wolf-like folk.
It's been quite some time since I've drawn human beings as well, so this was at least a good bit of practice in that regard too. While this is still incredibly rough, I think there is enough here to come back to it later to clean up and do a colour pass on.
It also meant I got to draw a Javarran again, which I've been wanting to do for ages. I need to work on a culture sheet for them at some point.
As always, the picture is attached. Stay warm folks!
