Finally got the flats done for the painting this month. I tend to do a fairly basic run of flats for anything I'm going to be painting in full. I find the more linework there is the more thinks I need to edit in the overpainting, so I try to keep lines to a 'cell animation' level.
I had to restart this once as the file went wonky on me after trying to save it and closing the program. Its a known issue with what I use and sadly the version of CSP I had wasn't the newest one.. which allows recovery (it saves iterations). So I updated, and started over, and so far like the results enough to start painting on it tomorrow.
I had someone ask, in a non-critical manner, why I didn't do more 'heroes fighting monsters' images when it involves characters. Often the answer boils down to my wanting to find serenity in what I draw, given how savage reality seems to be. In the case of these characters specifically, they are retired, have done their duty to their people, and live on as the new revered. Their homestead is its own plane that chosen can pass into, and they simply spend their days living (well, as immortals live that is).
I think in the future I would like to try some more typical fantasy fare. People fighting monsters and whatnot. its not unheard of, after all, but we'll see how the mood strikes me. For now, its 'dancing over breakfast'
Have a good weekend, folks!
