Patreon have reversed their decision

With a HUGE sigh of relief, I'm happy to let my patrons know that Patreon have apologized and are reversing their decision to start charging you all a fee on your patronage here.  Thus any pledge will still only cost you what it says on the tin.  No tax, no percentage on top.

They have a lot of trust to rebuild with both their creators and patrons alike.  And I'm not going to stop looking around for alternatives as a backup.  This was a bit of a wake-up call that one site's decisions could utterly wipe out a small-artists financials.

I'm very lucky.  I haven't lost many pledges.  I honestly don't know how to thank you all for sticking around, other than putting more art out there for you all.  With the overhead gloom of Patreon's absurd idea now gone, I feel a lot more energized to actually start doing art stuff again, and so I'll do just that.

Thank you all for being incredibly patient, and understanding.

Onward.

I can understand their core reasoning (largely the loss they take on every $1 or $2 pledge due to fees), the way they tried to whitewash this as 'being helpful saints' and springing it on everyone so close to its deadline created a disaster. I still contend they need a business manager, because the musicians and free spirits they have there now are lousy with figuring out the public facing part of their company.

Its a relief, for sure. Despite Patreon stating this would help give a more stable number at the end of the month, the potential loss of people had just the opposite effect. I remember feeling this way the last time I was waiting to hear if my job was safe in December (it wasn't). Its not pleasant, for sure.

I'm definitely wary of Patreon more than I was a few weeks back. I'm already looking around for alternates just in case. While I've heard compelling cases for the fee, their handling of it was an unmitigated disaster. We weren't consulted on anything, and the announcement was made the same month it was to go live. So while I'm glad they've decided to work with patrons/creators more, and admitted to a mistake, I'm wary.

Onward to bigger and better art! Free of the tyranny of the. . . um, wait, wrong speech. . . I'm glad they decided to lift the changes and revert to the tried and true method. I really hope this was a wake up call for them too. Haven't they ever heard the phrase "don't mess with the principle?" Glad you are still here and still energized to make awesome art.

While I'm glad that Patreon is showing that they made a big mistake, the damage is done and people need to be careful about this. Petreon is no longer a safe haven as it used to be for many reasons, but this reason was clearly one of the worst.

This is good news! And I'm glad to see you didn't lose much. I'm looking forward to what you put out in the future, now that this is hopefully over. :>
