The Black Hill House - October 1st.

Spook!

Its October already! (Seriously.. Did September even exist?  I don't remember any of it).  In celebration of the month of spook I figured I'd show off the side project I was noodling around with.  Maps of various places in the realm.

I actually had a lot of trouble figuring out how to do game-style maps again after years of mostly just scribbling out a 'stick figure' version in ball-point on note paper (Likely an hour before the game as well, because why be prepared well ahead of time? ;).  I poured through some old maps from the 1e days, and a few of the 2e days of Dungeons and Dragons.  There were a lot of hit-and-miss maps, but several that I still hold dear.

I also started looking at some of the maps of the 3.x and 5e eras.  While 4e did do lovely maps, the goal of that edition seemed to be segmented, small 'battlemaps' more than fully fledged places.  I loved the work of Mike Schley, as he seems to share the same obsessive need to detail the hell out of things, but still leaving it clear enough to be readable.

The history of the house is fairly dark, much like it's name implies.  Its deeper into the woods along the main road leading from Ler le Minnaeu to Marcelon, and is one of the reasons the normally cheery folk of the nearby township don't go out past the wrought iron entry-path to this place at night, especially during the Autumn and Winter.

I'll be inking and doing simple colour work on this as time permits down the road.  As my last post stated, these maps are more a fun thing to do in my free time rather than art focus.  A way to wind down and world-build.  And besides, I have Patron sketches to start up this month again as well!

May the leaves be gold, where ever you are.  And if they aren't, may you have tea for the morning.

And pumpkins.

Pumpkin tea before a quiet stroll in the woods. What would we find today?
