Ye Olde Onion - August update
Added 2017-08-07 16:27:34 +0000 UTCAugust already!
The autumn ghosts are already running rampant through my mind as the year wanders its way closer and closer to the time where leaves catch on fire and the ground crusts with frost.
With autumn, I always find my mind drifting back to the wolf-folk of Felwroth. The Javaar or Javarran depending on what dialect speaks of them (Cinders calls them 'the barks', though meant with genuine kindness).
I had always wondered why my mind switches back to wanting to draw and write about those people during the 'leaf rain' months. Part of it is just that I used to draw a lot of them in the past around this time. Perhaps they fit well with a Halloween theme. Perhaps its just nice thinking of the hunters and tribesman through the trees, prepping for the long winter to come.
I also think it largely re-triggered with a commission I had done a while back for Smokepaw. An image of his character walking through the village, dangling a few feathers just out of reach of a little hunter in training, determined to get his quarry.
In the following months there may be more wolf images amidst those inevitable ones of Cinders or the Lorrnathi people and their harvests. Summer is starting to become less caustically hot and humid which at least affords me the ability to work in the studio space rather than a couch (though I won't complain, many people probably want to work from a couch. I personally find it incredibly distracting).
I am behind schedule, however. I had to take some sick days to fight another round of my sciatic nerve attempting to pull free of my body and leave through one of my legs. While nowhere near as the worst case I have, it makes sitting an adventure not only in doing caretaker work, but trying to sit and draw as well, as being planted on one's backside only makes the 'migraine in my leg' much worse.
And then there's trying to sleep. Oh, the mythological sleep that I miss dearly.
However its at it's end (I hope!). I'll be working doubly hard to catch up, and I apologize to you all for being quiet for the last week. I won't be taking any other weekends off this month to try and make up some time.
Fall is coming.
Now to sit and wait for the first leef to float to the ground and sleep.

I think you just explained it for me :). The reason my mind goes to 'wolves' when the autumn sets in. Its a time of gathering, of preparing for colder winters, and packs definitely have that 'together and social' feel. The sharper air, smell of leaves, and the season of witch-hats and harvest hauls is soon and I couldn't be more happy for it.

2017-08-09 23:09:00 +0000 UTCSorry to hear of your nerve pain. That's always extra painful. I hope you are able keep it at bay for a while. Good luck. For me, Autumn is a time to catch my breath after the craziness that is summer and to enjoy festivals, and feel the crisp air that always announces the coming of winter. Another thing about autumn is that it's got a cozy social feel to counter summer's much more sporadic and spacious feel. Kind of reminds me of wolf packs, their communal ways, thick fur, and joy they seem to have when the weather turns cooler.
