Of Kings and Stories Read - April 25th

I remember my father and other local people had talked of finally removing King from the place he stood, though Elder Aedinos warned them it would be unwise:
"The lore tells us that he is rooted deep into this world. He was the first king, and a part of this land like no other. When temples burned and kingdom fell, he rooted himself to the lands to keep them from turning to ash. And he has stood there ever since. To move him would be to desecrate his place in history itself."
Most of the other kids found King to be eerie. Kirennon and Bursal swore they heard 'clicks' from King when they threw a stick at him, and it got louder when they approached him.
I felt sorry for King. The had naught but birds and the breezes to keep him company. I started reading to him after lessons, mostly stories about wizards or other kings.
I'd like to think he heard me.
Today there is naught left standing but his legs, feet still twined and embedded into the earth. I guess those that removed him didn't think it worth the effort to dig the rest of him free.
Maybe they were heeding the Elder's words."
