I had a distinct lack of character concept images for the comic that started to become really obvious the more I worked on it. I've been rifling through some quick sketches of the various characters that will appeal so I can have a consistent look for them.
Nalahi is the daughter of the head priest of the Great Wave and Voice of the Whispers of Stones. A priestess herself, her outfit is generally the type of low-covering island ware with wave and sun motif. She's an acolyte still at most, still learning the ebb and flow of the water and sounds of the great stones beneath.
With this character I wanted to get away from my typical depiction of female form. I wanted to try a more free form style as well, literally going from little more than a stick figure to a more fleshed out concept. The island sports a great deal of influence from various cultures that visit. The strongest that shine through in the area the story takes place are Polynesian and Asian, with a bit of 'otter' culture mixed in. In seeing that the people there will have a wider array of body-types, something I have to get used to drawing again, but am enjoying quite a bit.
I'll have more concepts of the characters to post in between painted works and comic pages. Plus some short blurbs on who all of these odd creatures are.
Links will be going out shortly.
