The CHAOS of flying with musical instruments

Hey guys!

I've been working on a video like this for, well, almost 4 years now.

As you know, I've slowed down on YouTube to focus on touring, and with that comes a very different focus and headspace. Most of my headspace is now taken up with logistics - how to get musicians from point A to point B, and how much it's going to cost to do that safely and effectively.

A HUGE factor in traveling is how you move instruments around, and I've been filming a good deal of my interactions at airports to try and paint as honest a picture as I possibly can of the state of affairs right now for musicians who fly.

It's frustrating, it's chaotic, and it's messy, and it could be a whole lot better, but for right now, I take my bass in the cabin as hand luggage, and I follow a series of steps ("strategies") to get it in and out statistically as safe as I can get it.

Hope you enjoy this video!

But what if you get there and the instrument the have feels and/or sounds awful? And don't even start for keyboard players. (I play bass and keys)

Isn’t it a little weird that we take instruments all over the world? I mean it’d be hard to find a kora, but I’d play any decent guitar rather than go through this every friggin time.

This is horrible!! I am wondering whether showing your itinerary could help gate agents understand you're working, this is your work stuff, and that they may have more empathy available to someone else just trying to get their job done.
