Practicing Ambigrams

Hey everybody!

As part of my last video (Crab Canon, check it out!), I included an Ambigram I designed that reads like my name (Adam) one way, and looks like "Lick" when flipped upside down. Doing this is fairly tricky, what you have to do is make every letter look like it's another letter when upside-down, and that can be hard. Trying to make "M" look like "L" is a pain!

I watched this video for a simple tutorial, it's fun.

The process of "composing" an ambigram felt very similar to the process of composing a crab canon - you're constantly having to double check against everything you write whether or not it "works" from a second perspective. I found that idea really intriguing. We're constantly forced into one perspective while writing music, and listening to music, but multi-perspective composition is, at least for me, fairly novel.

I think about how Picasso thought of his cubist art - attempting to capture multiple perspectives of an object in one, two dimensional plane. It makes you consider how much our own way of viewing things skews what it is we create.

DONG (a vSauce side channel) did a great video on Ambigrams recently that I found super inspiring. Check it out!
