Disneyland's Blast to the Past (Second Gate)

In 1988, Michael Eisner approved a foolproof plan to attract more locals to Disneyland: park some hot rods on Main Street and decorate the park like a cheap 50s sock hop.

I'm listening at work and between the 50s greaser voices and the rock n roll conversation I'm losing it, thank you. This is one of the episodes that feels like a very mild fever dream and those are my favorite.

Brent Silveria

Always a good day when “soak your head, fresh boy” gets a mention

Megan Temple

To be read in the Doughboys whiney Reddit voice - well actually…. https://www.folkwear.com/blogs/news/how-the-poodleskirt-came-to-be

Jessica

My grandmother always used to talk about how nobody wore poodle skirts in the 50s 😂 She said maybe one girl from her school had one if that 🤣

Taylor Rothbell

Except it’s called stuff like “amazing web adventures”

Six Fogs Great Adventure

Random suggestion but have yall considered covering the very faithful theme park recreations in Roblox? One has an insanely accurate recreation of the amazing spider man at IOA

Six Fogs Great Adventure

That cracked me up I hate going into those machines so much.

Lobo

Mike saying they will never do this again the same week they announce a Nifty Fifties After Hours event for Disneyland next year.

Jett Wallace

$69 is an awesome ticket price? Get thee to Japan - just bought a one day passport to Tokyo Disneyland next week for $62.68. Haven’t hit Beast or the Baymax curry at Disneyland yet, so that what I will look forward to at the moment. It will also be my first solo trip to Disney! Might try late January for the Fantasy Springs visit - prolly still too annoying to visit right now.

Matthew Comegys

Please do a Max Headroom deep dive. I will be the subject matter expert.

Philip E.

What’s up, Hot Dog?

Philip E.

“I wanna be in the tube.” Jason was throwing some smoke this episode.

Daniel Salas

Also 50's music basically spans from 1954 to 1964, Rock Around the Clock to the Beatles.

Robert

In my opinion Chappel Roan is the most rock 'n roll artist to hit it big in the last decade, maybe more.

Robert

Bowser has definitely been brought up on the show. I learned about him from this show.

Herman

Omg I was screaming during the intro coz this was on during my first trip to Disney as a kid & I have so many pictures of the parade.

mable cable

bay city rollers my first favorite band as a tiny child, i thought they wrote both “rebel rebel” and “i only want to be with you” and their pop sensibilities absolutely fed my eventual rundgren worship. anyway i am once again suggesting styx “kilroy was here” album/videos/tour/implosion

Kendal Mintcake

The KoRn bullet going through the top spire of the castle is a cross section of my life I never knew could be touched. Thank you, boiz.

RvckMetal5Chic

i'm fairly certain that the moniker of "mr. rock and roll" is not self-assigned.

alatina thucklemuggin

A little shocked you didn’t mention the Submarine Voyage “overlay” where they would play really cheesy 50s songs accompanied by puns a la the eventual Dive restaurant

Ryan O'Reilly

I know it's not NEARLY on the same scale, but let's be real, the modern equivalent of a Disney Parks decade throwback event is Eat To The Beat.

David Ganssle

As much as the sterilized version of the 50s is whack, the likes of John Waters and Tim Burton subverted it to be cool again somehow. When I went to Disney MGM Hollywood Studios in the early 2000’s, that spirit was alive and well (see “Sci-fi Dine-in Theater”).

Excitemike 64

Sorry to WWE referee, Charles Robinson, but Jason is now “little Naitch.”

Benjamin Martin

Second.

Connor

12:42am and I'm looking up Sha Na Na. Only for you, Podcast: The Ride.
