Triggerhappy: pros and cons

(Versión española)

It’s normal to have criticisms of hobbies and products you consume, but when some people express such continuous visceral hate for things that are part of its core identity, and their list of grievances is so big, you have to wonder what the fuck are they doing there and if they really like it. And in many cases, they don’t; they’re in it just because it’s trendy or they want to push their political agenda. And because they haven’t gone into it due to the elements that compose the product, they demand the product to change until it becomes what they want, often involving political activism and virtue signaling.

This is the kind of people that creators should ignore, because this is not the people who will remain consuming your hobby/product when it ceases to be the popular thing, and the loyal fans will leave due to the nonsensical changes you made to please non-fans. Beware of anyone who swears they’re a big fan, while they want it to change everything that makes it special.

Triggerhappy: pros and cons

Comments

Honestly, the worst part is the people who don't seem to be able to distinguish between the two. The person who looks and things all criticism is valid and take as much priority as the next and never stop to look at what is actually the thing being criticized, the product or society because of the product. As for the people who hate the "societal implications," they become even more annoying since mechanical criticism to these people is only valid when it brings down the hobby/product. Otherwise if it is not in service to some social or political criticism unrelated to the actual hobby itself then it doesn't matter since the actual hobby/product was never the point but rather the message that can be given by it is. And if you defend a mechanic due to it being a component of said game/hobby that has a use they don't like, you better be ready to justify how you're not a bad person for not acknowledging how problematic you are. At any rate you're right. If the hobby itself doesn't become insufferable due to changes made, the people that come running in sure as heck make it insufferable.
