Holy Shark Cow?!

Hello Happy Sea Creatures Enthusiasts !
Well it seems that this theme resonated with you! And it is very inspiring for us too! So that's a win all around!
We started working on it as soon as we got your feedback and we already have some great stuff!
Look what we already created - What a magnificent beast ;)

Ok.... Sorry.... I couldn't resist...
When I saw this image popping in my Facebook thread, I HAD to make a bad joke with it...
So, no, there won't be any Shark Cows in the release. But it is ONLY because you have suggested SO MUCH other cool stuff !!!
So I thought I would review these ideas with you and also ask you an important question.
It's really important that you share your answer with us in the comments!
Check out the video above to know what it is all about.
Thanks again for your amazing feedback.
Oh, if you haven't backed our Wizards' Christmas campaign on MyMiniFactory, do it now! Already more than half the stretch goals have already been unlocked!! And all files will be available directly into your MMF account a few hours after when the campaign ends on this Friday at 11h59 GMT.
Have a great day,
Benoit
i was actually looking forward to the shark cow

I think the 2 month release is a great idea that way you can get most of what people want without having to cut too much out. Merfolk for sure both bad ass and beautiful

I would certainly be up for 2 months. Much more room to cover some of the expected stuff then and also go properly weird with it as well. Would love to see lots of Crustaceans as not many of models of them about.

Maybe a 2-month release with different underwater themes? I liked that the faeries were summer/winter, so there was still a month-specific set. Maybe The Shallows vs The Deep? Shallows can be more of your traditional merpeople, seahorses, hippocampus stuff, and Deep can be more of the kraken, sunken ship, sea serpent stuff. Could do the same kind of idea but as an Atlantis vs The Wildlands theme. Just a thought - I know you guys will knock it out of the park no matter what!

Ichtyosaurus that survived time? or Megalodon? Perhaps a big creepy Angler Fish from the Deep?

Id love a two month Undersea release...Even if you did the months gapped apart like January and then maybe June or July since its summer then and Undersea can be kind of a summer theme. This way those that don't want the same thing back to back are appeased and we still get to see all of the awesome creations you guys can come up with. I'm completely fine with back to back though.

Hey Benoit, I know this is a little off topic, but I was looking around for hoodies (and t-shirts) for artists I like to support and was wondering if you guys have considered making some hoodie/t-shirt designs (like with your logo or whatever) and putting them up for sale on Teespring. Just a thought :)

You and Dr.V are both right, but the page explicitly states that you will need a resin printer to print what's in the package. I would strongly advise anyone to keep resin, both cured and uncured, away from food.

I have gotten most of their models (even the character miniatures / angles / etc.) to print in PLA FDM, just needs a slower print speed and ~0.08mm layer height and careful supports / model splitting. I plan on running their cookie cutters through my "food grade" FDM set up.

I would adore a 2mth (even a 3mth!) release for this, it's one of my fave themes of all time and not enough people do it!
I love seahorses (prefer them and pipefish, over hippocampus personally), so having them as mounts for riders (with separate rider, and even 'saddleless' for wild beasts) in a few different poses would be perfect
hermit crabs and blue-dragon slugs are epic!
Super excited!

In a way you've done two months with the angels/demons as well. If you have enough ideas to do both, and to have two solid releases...I don't see an issue with it.

I loved the 2 month with the fairies. Each month felt different and was distinct enough to not feel repetitive. Personally I don't have many sea themed STLs. Having 2 months of sea creatures sounds great!

2020-12-08 14:06:31 +0000 UTC
"In the end it does't really matter...... ". But before that: 2 months is ok. But have some time in between. This can.be done with any theme, after a couple of months an extra set of miniatures. Then we have a couple of months to print and paint the first set. 15 miniatures is fine. But if you think 20 is needed for this month: leave out the centerpiece, it might save some time...... And if you happen to have a character made like a fish, call her Wanda. 😁
Marco van Deutekom
2020-12-08 12:34:52 +0000 UTC
I don't mind the 2-month system, but I'd recommend each month stand mostly on its own. Divide an overarching theme into 2 distinct flavours. In this case, it's 'the ocean.' Have 'underwater' one month (mermaids and such), and something along the lines of 'surface dwellers' the second month. 'Pirates' have of course been done, that would have been a good pairing. Maybe some 'royal navy' law-abiding types to contrast pirates, or some kind of island tribal grouping. Classic/steampunk diving suits?
Rob Silvester
2020-12-08 11:20:42 +0000 UTC
I'm with the 2-month crowd, although if it's a drain on the team doing 2 months with a similar theme you can do the 2nd one a couple months later. Listening to your video, here are my suggestions:
- One month do the "good" side (like you did with the faeries) using male/female merfolk, and regarding the hippocampus vs. seahorse, you could have 3 (heroes) riding hippocampus and 3 (troops) riding seahorse. These would be the main focus, filled in with other creatures as you can.
- The second month do the "evil" side with sahuagin (I personally like the sahuagin look more than "merlok"), some riding large versions of that deadly blue angel sea slug and/or other mounts like sharks or whatever. These would be the main focus, filled in with other creatures as you can.
Oh, and the shark cow was pretty funny, thanks for sharing! :)

I feel the same way. Anything I ever list is intended as a "wish list" of interesting things, with the hope that perhaps something from it gets picked or that it helps give you ideas (though it is ok if it is not, there are a lot of great ideas and limits to what can be done). My expectation is never for everything in the list to get picked as that would be an unreasonable amount of work.

I would love two months of the same theme. I use them for proxies for miniature gaming and for RPGs so the variety makes the set much more viable. It is always disappointing to see a wonderful set that get you "half-way" to what you need. I feel that two months worth would make this a much more useful collection overall.
Also, Lionfish are wonderful creatures and they were always one of my favorite to watch in my salt water fish tanks.
Have a wonderful day and I wish you the best of luck with all of your work!

This is a cool theme, and I feel I'd be on board for two months. To reference something from your video, I can only speak for myself but when I post my suggestions, my intention is to provide a list of things I would be interested in rather than my expectations of what will be included. I 100% do not expect to see a model for everything I list. Reading others' posts, I get the same impression (feel free to jump in and correct me). Sorry to hear it doesn't exactly come across that, hopefully this helps shed some light on at least what I'm thinking when I post my suggestions for a release

Dear Benoit, I loved your video. I understand your concern and question based on all of the great and creative ideas. Unless you have a burning concept for January, while I support whatever you do, please go with one month now based on what scope (e.g., the core seems to be "mermaids and the kraken") most inspires you and your team (patrons will love it no matter what you and the team choose!) and based on your work flow.
Consider featuring this theme one month per year (e.g., in the summer of 2021, 2022+) as you expand the RH aquatic world! Like your winged angels and demons, I recommend you have them look like they are swimming and flowing (not walking on the sea floor). I like your idea of protagonist troops (e.g., 4 in total beautiful but martial male and female merfolk with melee weapons and a heroine or war machine mounted on good sea creature, such a Lion Fish or Blue Dragon Nudibranch, v. antagonist troops (wicked counterpart merfolk, such as vicious sirens, etc.) and a big monster (e.g., Kraken). I love the thought of Lovecraftian models (e.g., Aboleth and other slimy things), which others have done but not as well as you would do, but I would focus on that separate theme in a future 2021 release to maintain a consistent theme within December and/or January. Hopefully, this makes sense. If you do a second consecutive month of the under the sea theme, then stay with the theme (e.g., sea creatures of order v. sea creatures of chaos in whatever combo you'd like) over the two months so it feels connected and balanced. Merci!
War Mammoth

Humanoids and Monsters
The first month you do merrfolk with some mounts and maybe the more normal creatures.
The second month you go huge scary sea monsters and if you do any humanoids at all they're 1 or 2 squidfaced davey jones types.

i think it makes the most sense to do 2 months back to back, one "good", one "evil". just like has been your theme lately, for the most part. faeries, elves, angels & demons, etc. there are so many great things that could be done, and your art style would do it justice.

One month now, another month maybe around May or June. To figure out what the people want, put all options into a large Poll. Allow everyone to pick the options they like (multiple choices). Then take the top ## for month one, and slate the next top ## for month two.
Should be easy enough to nail it down that way.

I vote one month of the sea theme. If it's popular or you find there's more you want to do, you can always return to it in the future.

I wouldn't mind 2 months of sea stuff. It would allow you to create a more robust collection in an area where it is hard to find great minis.

I think one month of sea theme is enough. Pick your own personal favourites and include those ones!
The sea theme is great, but perhaps a little niche for the majority.
Keep up the great work!
