A RESONSE FROM SOMEONE WHO SUFFERS FROM PTSD,ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION. TRIGGER WARNNING. If you don't like what I have to say.. Tough tits. Being someone who suffers from multiple mental illnesses that really do effect your day to day actions with other people this movie is so powerful. I'm not condoning the murder and chaos or anything like, I just wanted to share with those here the perspective of the film from someone who is treated like they are sub human due to their mental afflictions. This film is a wonderful staged glimpse into the life of one of the most severe cases on the spectrum of mental health. It let's spectators emotionally bond with a character where they would otherwise "Stepover them if they were dying on the sidewalk." It shows the ugly side of mental illness and it shows how people can't control it. It also shows how funding for mental health is not taken seriously and people who CAN get better slip through the cracks and end up committing mass atrocities or killing themselves. One of the hardest things I have to live with is my mental illnesses and the stigma that comes with them. For example I hate the Fourth of July because unexpected fireworks send me into full survival mode. A few years a go some kid lit an m80 under the bridge I live next too and I was outside with my family playing and when the explosion went off I dove onto my son and blacked out. The next thing I remember is getting dragged off by my uncle and brother and me trying to fight them and everyone who was present just looking at me like I was crazy. Do I like living like this? Absolutely not, Am I taking the steps to get better? You bet, however there will be triggers that send me into survival mode and I can't forget the looks on my families face, strangers faces and it's humiliating. Long story short I think this movie was beautifully made and it truly pushes people to talk about uncomfortable conversations in hopes to take steps in the right direction to better humanity.
