Okay So I finally finished your video, first thing I will say is that I HATE that I LOVE this movie so much. I really can't get through it a single time with out crying and I have watched it over 10 times growing up. The pure emotion that this film evokes is so strong that it physically makes my chest hurt. This movie is a very good at being unbiased and showing how people thought back then. The scenes where the black soldiers are talked down about by their superiors and even their fellow white soldier always gets me so HEATED I have to sit there and tell myself "Calm down P it's a movie this shit isn't happening in front of your face you can't slap someone in the mouth right here and now so just calm down." It just evokes that emotion out of me. I grew up in a mixed "Mutt" family. I myself am white but I have two black brothers, two white brothers, one black sister and two white sisters but we were raised all the same. I never felt like there was a difference in anybody until I reached school and my family got looked at like we had five heads. We were taught growing up that you love everyone no matter the color no matter the language. you love on them. Then getting thrusted into a world where hate for color is still very real slickened me. It still does. I am so quick to jump off on anyone that wants to say something slick. SO BACK TO THE MOVIE. The Union issued the "AP" to weaken the labor in the slave states. As a counter the Confederate government passed a law saying basically "Hey, if your black and in a uniform. we are going to torture and kill you. We are also going to kill the white men leading you into battle." They did it as a tactic to dissuade African Americans from joining the Union Ranks. That's why Col. Shaw gave his men a chance to leave and go back to being freemen so they would not be subjected to the Confederacy's BS. Also the small skirmish they fought was unfortunately Overshadowed by the biggest and most meaningful battle of the entire war, Gettysburg. So even though that fight did happen. Everyone was so wrapped up on Lee's army getting crushed and turned upside-down and back around by Grant that reporters wanted to spread that story across the Union States to help the Homefront morale. It would be like watching todays news and them talking about the president and on the bottom of the screen there would be a little snipped of a rolling update saying "Man saves five children from burning building" Unfortunately today the News is not what it used to be but I hope that analogy made sense. The bigger the victory the less the limelight for the smaller victories. As always Dev great reaction. Keep up the good content. I love your commentary and I love your uncensored thinking and telling us as a people exactly what's on your mind because people are just too afraid to keep it real in this decade. I'll see you next time buddy.

I will be posting a few comments through out your reaction. As for the Flogging scene. the 19th century and before so 1800s and below it was common practice armies across the world to flog their soldiers for infractions. I think it stopped in World War 1.
