omg i hope youre ok!! i hope youre staying safe 🀍🀍 also is that why gandlaf said that smeagol had a bigger part to play? thats why they shouldnt kill him? i think in the first movie, because he knew on some level that smeagol would be the one to drive it into the lava?

If you're curious what happens to the characters after the events of the movie: Sam was mayor of the shire for 47 years, had 13 children, and lived to be over 100 years old. One of his daughters is handmaiden to Queen Arwen. He passes the red book to his daughter, and is granted passage to the undying lands to be reunited with Frodo, having also been considered a ring bearer. Aragorn was king for over 120 years. After he dies, Arwen passes away from heartbreak the following year. Their son becomes a great king. Merry and Pippin become great leaders of the shire and record histories and write books. They travel together back to Minis Tirith where they eventually die of old age. After Aragorn passes away, Merry and Pippin are re-buried alongside him. Gimli and Legolas travel together for years and help Aragorn rebuild Minis Tirith. When Gimli reaches old age, Legolas builds a ship for himself and Gimli to sail west to the undying lands. I believe Galadriel had a hand in convincing the gods to allow this, Gimli being the only dwarf to ever sail to the undying lands.

Some other bits. The ghost army doesn't actually fight at Minis Tirith, and can't make physical contact. They are used to attack the ships and basically fight through fear. The enemy sees this army of ghosts and start jumping off into the water, drowning. Saruman doesn't die at Isengard like in the movie. He actually attacks the shire and the hobbits have to deal with that at the end of the story. It's a good section but I can understand why it wouldn't work for the movie, so they left that out. In the books, there is actually more time given to Faramir and Eowyn than there is to Aragorn and Arwen. They added a few more things for Arwen in the movies so she is included. There is a fan theory about the 3 eagles at the end that I really like. Gandalf arrives with 3 eagles to rescue Frodo and Sam. Gandalf is riding one, leaving 2 for the hobbits. People speculate that Gandalf's eagle also could've carried someone, leaving some to suspect Gandalf was hoping Gollum was also going to be there to be rescued as well. This movie was nominated for 11 Oscars, and won all 11, including best picture and best director.

In defense of Denethor, Boromir and Faramir's father. Movie version of Denethor is of course a terrible person and the audience should not like him at all. But they do leave out some important stuff from the books. Denethor was at one point a very good father, and did his best at being ruler of Gondor. The biggest thing that is left out is that Denethor had his own Palantir (a seeing stone like the one Saruman had, that Gandalf took). He used it for years to gain knowledge on Sauron and in defense of Gondor. Sauron was unable to control Denethor, but the use of the palantir for so long drove Denethor mad, and Sauron was able to show images to Denethor such as the downfall of Gondor, the death of his family, etc. and he eventually falls into madness. In the books, Denethor had already lit the beacons and sent riders to Rohan asking for help.

Oh man, we had tornadoes tear through Alabama so I've been without power for a bit, just in time to miss your LotR upload! Finally got a chance to sit down and watch, so glad you got to finish it and experience this journey. Few things I want to mention, I'll try not to overdo it. First thing to mention is that nobody can destroy the ring willingly. Only divine intervention could have caused the ring to be destroyed. Frodo was the only one that could've gotten the ring to Mordor, but couldn't have done so without Sam's support. Sam could not have destroyed the ring, Tolkien himself says nobody had the power to make that "final decision". Frodo's compassion is one of the things that made him so strong against the ring's power. Sam did not have this same compassion. Sam is a good person, yes. But Frodo had compassion towards Gollum, where Sam wanted to just tie him up and leave him to die. Possibly a wise choice, yes. But Gollum had to be there at the end for the ring to be destroyed. If Sam carried the ring, this could not have happened. Gandalf suspects divine intervention in all this when he says Bilbo was meant to find the ring, and that Frodo was meant to have it. Gandalf understands there is a greater power at work here. About most characters surviving the story. This is done quite on purpose by Tolkien because the whole point/theme of the story is love, friendship and hope. The one big death in the fellowship is Boromir, a good man, but falls into despair and loses hope. He even says himself "it is long since we had any hope." This is what leads to his downfall. Most of our other character stay true to love, friendship, and hope. Tolkien was not going to have them die. And Tolkien wrote this long before stuff like this became cliche in fantasy stories.

If you try sync it with the timer then it’s pretty accurate! Sometimes my reactions are delayed because my brain is slow ahaha

IcedQuokka

The timer is usually only off by a second or two! Could be your internet connect and buffing maybe??

IcedQuokka

I did have a hard time syncing my movie up with yours as the times weren't exactly the same and you minimized your viewing window :(
