The version I watched switched the score right at the end of the Namek arc. Don't know why this versions been switched so early. Maybe a recent DVD boxset? It's a shame, then original score for Kai had such hype ass moments. Now it's just going to be these repetitive osts

HELL YEAH!

DBZ Kai was originally scored by Kenji Yamamoto who has worked on several Dragon Ball soundtracks ranging from the video games to the anime for decades. He composed for Dragon Ball Kai (JP ver. of DBZ Kai) until March 9, 2011, when Toei acknowledged the plagiarism in many of his works for the series. Mind you, this was not just Kai's soundtrack but all of his compositions across the franchise. Toei fired Yamamoto and replaced his soundtrack with Shunsuke Kikuchi's compositions for the original Dragon Ball Z series. ************************************************************* The problem with Kikuchi's score in Kai was that only a fraction of the OST was used. I assume this was due to copyright issues, but the score ends up being inconsistent. It was basically a rush job. There are many repeated themes and sometimes pieces are repurposed for scenes not intended for them. That being said, the replacement is still good and arguably better in some areas. ************************************************************* Yamamoto's soundtrack was used from EP 1-95 of the Dragon Ball Kai JP broadcast with the last 3 episodes using the replacement score. EP 1-52 (Part 1-4 of 8) of the US home release of DBZ Kai contain the Yamamoto Score then switch to the replacement Kikuchi score for the remaining 46 episodes. To make things more complicated, some later prints of the home releases only have Kikuchi. FUNimation's re-release season sets only have the Kikuchi score. *****************************************************************DBZ Kai: The Final Chapters has an original score by composer Norihito Sumitomo, who composed music for Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and Dragon Ball Super. Since then there have been fan restorations of the Yamamoto score for DBZ Kai. Look into those fan restorations to see the difference when you have the chance.

Yeah, thought the switch to the replacement Kikuchi score was later down the line. Sucks. The Yamamoto score was damn amazing this arc. This one is still pretty good though.

I gotta admit, I'm a little disappointed they switched the scoring this episode.
