Call for Responses! Waluigi's Player's Poll

Greetings, Nintendo Force fans!

As many of you have already seen, we decided to change directions for the upcoming Issue #35. While we originally planned on having a Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu & Eevee theme, we shifted gears to focus the issue's content on Waluigi instead.

The problem? Our Player's Poll questions printed in Issue #34 were all about Pokémon! It wouldn't make much sense to print a bunch of Pokémon-related Inbox letters in a Waluigi-centered issue, so now I'm going to present three new Player's Poll questions for you all to respond to directly here via Patreon comments.

As usual, if any of your answers are picked to appear in print, you'll be eligible to win a free game! For Waluigi-themed questions, I'll say that the prize winner can select any game in which Waluigi appears as their prize. So something on the horizon like Super Mario Party would qualify, or even Super Smash Bros. Ultimate! (Though he's sadly not a playable fighter in it.)

Now, the questions! Read them and then reply to this Patreon post with your responses!

1) Are you a fan of Waluigi? Like a genuine, honest fan? If so, why do you like him? If not, why do you dislike him?

2) Of all the appearances Waluigi has had in different games over the last 18 years, which one was his best? Which game displayed him at his peak of Waluigi-ish-ness? And why do you think so?

3) Finally, Waluigi has never headlined his own game before. Maybe that's part of his popularity problem! Give us your best pitch for what kind of game would work best with Waluigi as the lead character. What would it be called? How would it play? The works!

Thanks in advance for your responses, everyone! We're just two weeks away from wrapping up NF Magazine #35, so when you read it, flip to the Inbox section first to see if your responses to these questions made the cut for print!

I love Waluigi but I'm disappointed by the cover for this issue. in the last one they showed art of this one being about octopath traveler. The art looked amazing and would've look fantastic on my wall with all my other NF magazines but now its this meh picture of waluigi. other than the cover this issue was great i loved this one just as much as all the other one. thank you for all the hard work you guys do and keep it up :).

I am a fan of Waluigi. I appreciate his unpredictability. At present you never know where and when he will appear. Once he makes his grand appearances, you never know what he’s upto. He seems to always keep his audiences guessing. If ever given his own game, it should be one where Waluigi gives the impression that he is repenting for all his sins to the different characters of the Mario world, but not until the end of the game, is it revealed that he continues to be his deceatful self.

1. yes I am a wluigi fan, I think he's such a neat and fun character. his sneaky personality and his awesome looking outfit make him one of my favorite Mario characters. like everyone I wish he would appear in more games or have a game of his own 2. that's a tough one especially considering waluigi is the least represented Mario bro. I would probably say his Mario kart appearances. he is a fun character to race with, and his kart is really cool too. 3. probably an RPG type game featuring wario and waluigi, similar to Mario RPG, but with a totally different story and characters. either that or a waluigiware game, it would basically be warioware except with waluigi instead of wario, and some microgames to better fit waluigi's sneeky personality.

1. Waluigi is a character that after being what’s essentially an evil copy of Luigi still seems to have a specific personality that’s different than other characters and that makes it easy for him to be such a likable character as himself. 2. Any of his Mario Kart or Party experiences because he’s one of the “featured” characters that you can play as in those games. 3. Okay hear me out, “Waluigi Life”. Waluigi is the moderator/narrator of the game and it’s like “Tomodachi Life” but with Mario characters and Mii’s are still an option but it’s primarily Mario focused. - Alex

1) I like Waluigi because, like Wario's infamy mirroring Mario's fame, he mirrors Luigi's 2nd-banana traits with levels of unpopularity that rival and even surpass Luigi's. Luigi may be the forgotten brother occasionally, but Waluigi is always shrugged aside in Nintendo's games. I like him because he always is the attention seeker that wants to claim fame he'll never reach. It's sad and nihilistic, but the fact he still tries despite that is inspiring. 2) Mario Power Tennis definitely gave Waluigi a lot of personality in its opening cutscene. I think it helped shaped Waluigi as we know him now! 3) Alright, my pitch is: Waluigi's Wrecking Crew. This game will build on and refine the gameplay of the original Wrecking Crew while centering it around Waluigi instead of Mario. Foreman Spike could also return as the game's villain. Waluigi has been associated with Wrecking Crew in quite a few of his appearances, so it seems fitting to include him in a modern Wrecking Crew sequel!

1) I've realized that I am in fact a Waluigi fan. I love his lanky run, his competitive spirit and envy that sharp looking mustache. 2) For me Waluigi's defining appearance was in Mario Tennis: Power Tour for the GBA. The first time I saw him pull of a swimming save across a tennis court I new this was a guy that would do anything to win. Also, the way Waluigi announced the developer "Camalot" each time the game was loaded up has been stuck in my head for over a decade. 3) To me Waluigi is someone that will do anything to win. I'd put him in a game where he's got tired of loosing and decides to steal wearable trophies from other characters. Trophies like King Bomb ombs crown, Mouser's glasses, or Dk's Tie. It would be a stealth game where he would sneak into castles, dungeons, jungles and such, avoiding the residents within, in order steal their most treasured possessions. If he's spotted the game would switch to a chase scene where Waluigi would be run toward the screen Crash Bandicoot style (now a ligit Nintendo reference) in order to escape, gangling run and all. I'd call the game Waluigi-Wear.

The works!

Marco Reyes

I like Waluigi mostly because of how Brawl in the Family portrayed him. I loved him in that so I grew to love him in the games too.

1) I'm not a super fan of Waluigi, but I think he's grown on me as a character, especially seeing his moves in Mario Tennis Aces. 2) I think Super Smash Bros when he shows up as an assist trophy. 3) I want to see a Waluigi knitting game. Hear me out on this. Waluigi has been given a terrible reputation due to being pals with Wario...but what if Waluigi would just rather stay home and do crafts? Sure, he's a great friend to stick up for his buddy, but now he gets to shine in what he actually enjoys doing!

3. In the distant future, Bowser (or some other villain) has finally defeated the Mario Brothers and taken over the Mushroom Kingdom. Unbeknownst to everyone in the Mushroom Kingdom, Waluigi finds a mysterious mushroom called the Time Shroom. With it Waluigi gains the ability to time travel and manipulate time itself known as "Waluigi time." Waluigi is either forced or tricked into being a hero/anti-hero. You would be able to choose to either help the Mario Brothers in a normal way or in a more unorthodox way. It would start off with Waluigi trying to figure out what went wrong and how Mario and Luigi were defeated. The game would be called Waluigi Time. Besides the main objective, you would be able to mess around and explore the Mushroom Kingdom (pre-conquered and post-conquered versions). Waluigi's weapons of choice would be bob-ombs, his trusty tennis racket, and of course, "Waluigi time". He would also be able to use any of his abilities from past games. And whenever he wins, he takes out a rose.

Sarah Schweitzer

2. Man, that's kind of hard. I think I'll go with Mario Kart: Double Dash. I'm pretty sure that's the first (and maybe only other canon) time he says "Waluigi Time" so that counts for something, I think. :3

Sarah Schweitzer

1. Whaaaaat kind of question is that? Of course I'm a fan! Ok, let me elaborate. My first experience with Waluigi was in Mario Party 5. My older brother and I both wanted to play as Luigi (sorry Mario), but obviously only one of us could. I got the "short stick" since I was younger and had to pick someone else instead: Waluigi. Now I (usually) always pick Waluigi if he's an option. I'm not sure what I like the most about him: his narcissistic in-your-face boastfulness, his quirkiness, or the fact that he's a complete hopeless romantic. (Also, sometimes I try to imitate Waluigi's voice, but it would probably seem awkward coming from a girl. Haha. xD)

Sarah Schweitzer

1. I am a fan of Waluigi, because I think he is fun to play in Mario Party games. His over-lankiness always give me a laugh! 2. I think he is at his best losing a Mario Party Mini game, throwing a fit and stomping his feet. Waluigi at his finest! 3. I think a Banjo-Kazooie style game, accept that Luigi and Waluigi are somehow stuck together, and must work together to traverse the world and collect items! Waluigi would be faster and taller, and would look hilarious on Luigi's back, and Luigi could jump higher. Although, Luigi would probably steal the spotlight.... sigh. It's tough to be Waluigi.

John Michael Nadeau

3. Hmmm this is a tough one. Mario is a platformer who saves princesses, Luigi hunts ghost, Wario seeks treasure and makes games, but Waluigi....got it! It would have to be a dancing adventure game. The title would be Waluigi's Rumba Land. Where Waluigi (and allies along the way) find a way to defeat the infamous King Disco. It would work like a dance game similar to Splatoon 2's dance arcade game. Each time you do it right, the more damage deal to your opponent. You also have to dance to avoid attacks. This game would make for a great soundtrack and maybe even music from other games like Splatoon or Odyssey. Now that I think about it, something like Octopus Dance from Nintendo Land would also work.

Majora

2. It would have to be either Mario Tennis Power or Aces. Mario Tennis Power's intro shows Waluigi's mischievous side while Aces' Waluigi Power shot shows his meme side. And lets not forget Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix.

Majora

1. Ok, I'm gonna be honest, I'm not a Waluigi fan. Why? If I answered this question yesterday, I would've said, "I just don't understand his popularity." But today, I watched the origins of the popularity of him. And it is very interesting. It apparently started by Waluigi himself, Charles Martinet. The fact that he is so desperate for attention really impresses me. But, nevertheless, I am not huge about him. I am just not interested in him.

Majora

2. I definitely think his best appearance is in Mario Tennis Aces. It really gives us a new perspective to his character.

1. It is honestly hard to say. Maybe it's because he's so different from the other Mario cast. He's unique. Maybe it's because he's generally not liked in the Mushroom Kingdom, which makes him very relatable!

Wario land 5 waluigi big adventure in wa-kingdom

#3: My girlfriend Kristen is touting for a Waluigi Dating sim, but all the characters are Waluigi. I suggested the name "Wa-Love-igi".

#3 - I think any game that headlines Waluigi needs to play upon the whole concept that he's never had one. I think the best way to do that would be to make the game all about Waluigi searching for his own story by invading everyone else's game and try to steal their thunder and glory for his own. From Luigi's Haunted Mansion to Warioware to Paper Mario. This would open up a lot of opportunities for crossovers, too, like Donkey Kong, Kirby, or even outside the Marioverse like Metroid, Kid Icarus, or even Balloon Fight. It could mix many different gameplay styles and graphics. And for icing on the cake, maybe we could finally get a game that can incorporate Wart as the main bad guy again, and he could become Waluigi's archnemesis since Bowser is so busy with Mario!

3) Waluigi is ripe for the picking to be in one of two games in a support or co-op role as. ..well...the reality of him being in a solo game is next to none. #1 - In the same manner as A Link Between Worlds, I think Super Mario Land 2 could get a sequel with Waluigi teaming up with Wario this time around. SML2 had many fun and still unique takes on Mario platformers and is ready for modern revisit and he could be part of that new take. #2 - If deemed worthy of a status more than sidekick I would love to see the crafty bizzaro duo in a hand drawn adventure like Wario Land. The character can be pretty expressive so the art style would be a perfect fit. I wonder why they could not squeeze him into the Wario Ware games...or maybe a mash up of the misfits like a Tingle and Waluigi game where they try to get all the money before the other...I better stop. Bonus - A Wario, Waluigi Mario Odyssey DLC world.

1) My first encounter with Waluigi was Mario Kart DS. I tend to favor heavies in MK games, be they Bowser, Wario, or DK. Waluigi, with his weighty Gold Mantis excavator, easily won me over, and I haven't looked back since! 2) Ya know, it might not be a game, but the one time I felt Waluigi was at his peak was when Matthew Taranto was making comics about (hijacked by) him on a little website called Brawl in the Family. Matt took the premise set out by Nintendo, an envious narcissistic jerk, and blasted off on hilariously nonsensical WAAA-ventures! Any time I saw the purple ink I knew I was in for a good time. 3) The Mario Bros have done just about everything, from outer space exploration to microscopic body investigation, from shooting hoops to blasting Rabbids. Out of all of these Waluigi is continuously the second fiddle, afterthought, the guy who just showed up so Wario could have a partner in Tennis. There is one game, however, where he truly shines- albeit as the main ANTAGONIST: DDR Mario Mix. I would love to see a reboot of that crossover, but this time with a more... Purple protagonist!

Salty

1) Fan is a strong word... but, yeah, I've always liked Waluigi. He's weird and out of place, like a joke that went too far - a perfect partner to Wario. 2) Mario Party 6, which introduced the immortal "YOU'RE LOUSY!" taunt. It's Waluigi at his most obnoxious - he may have started with Tennis, but Mario Party's friendship-ruining nonsense is the perfect home for him. 3) A game where Waluigi, desperate to find a place all his own, travels through sillier versions of Nintendo properties, subbing in as a "hero" with weird gimmicks and goofy gameplay. Think of 9-Volt's games from WarioWare, just on a bigger scale - and with the nostalgia a little bit twisted.

1) Hell yeah! Waluigi is hilarious! 2) All of them! Waluigi's great in every one of them! 3) The game: Waluigi. The (only) character: Waluigi. The premise: Whatever Waluigi wants to do, but mostly making fun of every other character for always shunning him!

1: I’ve never been a big fan of Waluigi, but my wife always picks him when we play Mario Kart, so I guess he’s OK 2: He doesn’t really stand out to me in any game, he just shows up when you need a big roster for a Kart or a Party. 3: I think a platforming game set in a world that Waluigi is too tall for would be fun. He’d eat purple mushrooms to make him smaller, and instead of shrinking when he gets hit, he’d get taller. You lose a life when he’s too tall to move and just has to sit down and give up.

wightlight

1. Personally, I have never been a huge fan of Waluigi, mainly because I just haven't played most of his games that he has been featured in. If he gets a bigger role in later games, I might like him more than I do now. 2. Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix. Seeing Waluigi dance is purely a sight to behold. If you're not taking that, then pretty much any Mario Kart games he is featured in, but since 8 is my favorite, let's go with that. 3. Making a game about someone like Waluigi is difficult. But here is my best guess. A side-scroller called "Waluigi: Legend of the Golden Stone". You take control of Waluigi (or Wario, as a side character) and go through a cave, looking for a golden stone, with a tennis racket as your only weapon (it would play kinda like Ori and the Blind Forest.) The reason you are looking for this crystal? Nobody knows, but at the end it is revealed that since Wario made none of them sweet sweet dolla bills in Dr. Mario 64, Waluigi decided, "What the heck! I'll help you bro!" In the words of King Liang, "Creative and original. Creative and original." But slap a $20 price tag on it, get the funds for the sequel, "Waluigi and the Quest to End all Quests.. for now", and watch the money roll in!

1) Waluigi has always been a side character, like Luigi to Mario, except Luigi atleast gets recognition while Waluigi gets left in the dust. I know he has had minor appearances in recent games like Mario Tennis Aces and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe but he's never really had the spotlight... Do I like Waluigi? No, not personally but how could I know wether I do when he's never had the chance in the spotlight... Cmon Nintendo, Waluigi for smash! 2) Aces is the obvious answer, not only is it his most recent appearance but during his special shot where he really shows his true beauty to the world! 3) Now to my belief Nintendo have never stated wever or not Waluigi is a villain, and have instead stated him as selfish (But we still love him) so what if we had a game where Mario and Luigi are trying to get a treasure or some sorts but Waluigi wants it first so Mario and Luigi become the antagonist in this game and Waluigi is the protagonist.

1. Waaaluigi is a great man. He is waaaandrous and handsome. I have every waaa-ne of his many games (that he is featured in). I have heard from someone very close to him that he gets all the princesses. 2. In eh-very game Waaaluigi is always at his peak. I... he is very handsome as always and triumphs over that foolish clone Luigi. Yet again, maaaany princesses want this maaan. 3. Those foolish, biased con-men at Nintendo have never given our purple hero a game, and that is a disgrace. Eh, why not call it "Waluigi: Most Handsome Man Alive" or "Waluigi: Model in the Making". Waaaluigi is beautfiul and I am his biggest faaan. #Wah-luigi4Smash5

1) Absolutely not! I can’t stand Waluigi! I’d lose my mind every time I was ousted by Waluigi in a Mario Party game and had to listen to that smug laughter of his! 2) My favourite game that Waluigi was in would have to be Mario Open Tennis, because I never played it, bwahaha! 3) If he had to headline his own game it would have to be a Mario and Luigi style game that headlined Wario and Waluigi where you would have an argument gone wrong with their brothers Mario and Luigi, who in the end would win of course.

LaLtheGaL

While I didn't play Waluigi's debut game, I've become more of a fan of him over the years as his personality developed through his varied appearances. I have to say my favorite instance of him is from Mario Strikers. Between his intro song being a banjo and his varied...taunts he is just oozing with personality and fits in well with the game's crazy aesthetic. As for a game to call his own? Call in PlatinumGames and give him a stylish action beat-em-up like Bayonetta! Only the most over the top will do for the man. Wa! Lu! I! Gi! Yeah yeah yeah!

Sephiroth1204

1) I'm neither a fan nor a hater. Waluigi exists in his own space and people seem to have latched on. I honestly don't get it, but if people want to attach themselves to this gangly, purple-clad Luigi doppelganger, then I'm not going to protest. 2) I think Waluigi's debut in Mario Tennis on the N64 would be his best. It was the world's introduction to Luigi's "nemesis" and Wario's partner in crime (kind of). Nintendo really hasn't given Waluigi any significant appearances otherwise, and until I see a Waluigi Land, I don't see how any new guest spots will be different from previous ones. 3) My view of Waluigi has been skewed by Matthew Taranto's depiction of him in Brawl in the Family. With that in mind, my Waluigi game would be similar to Luigi's Mansion, but in a bizarro fashion. Waluigi's Mansion would have the player control Waluigi at a fancy soiree in a mansion, but instead of capturing ghosts, the player would be charged with creeping out the guests to the point of them leaving. The goal would be to clear out the mansion, so Waluigi could have it all to himself.

Kurt from Cincinnati

1) I'm not a fan of Waluigi, but I think that's mainly because he hasn't had a real chance to prove himself. For years now, he's shown up, made some weird noises, and peaced out. I mean, look at Wario by comparison: in the Wario Land games, he stole treasure and used the money to build these hilariously self-indulgent mansions. He made friends with this huge cast of characters in WarioWare and had all kinds of strange, unique mini-games with them. He has his own set of power-ups that lean into his design - but Waluigi? He's...kind of just an obnoxious tall dude that crashes parties. I don't love him - I pity him. 2) I feel like it has to be Mario Power Tennis, right? "Take this, Mr. Eyeballs!" 3) Despite my misgivings about Waluigi, I think it's a crime that there isn't a "Wario & Waluigi" RPG to balance out the increasingly "same-y" Mario & Luigi games. The franchise's zany writing and goofy charm would be a perfect fit for the misadventures of these two scheming, incompetent, purple-clad "brothers." Something along those lines would go a long way in fleshing out the character and firmly justifying his existence.

WALUIGI FOR SMASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not a true fan of Waluigi. The only real interest I've had in him has spawned from Matthew Taranto's overload of Waluiginess from all his outlets. Before that I always had (and still do) thought of Waluigi as kind of creepy and unappealing to look at with his lanky limbs and long nose... His best appearance is definitely Mario Kart: Double Dash!! In it he can rightfully team up with his partner Wario, a team that should be together at all times! Plus, it set him up to appear in Mario Kart Wii-gi and all the subsequent games after that! What game would he headline? Waluigi's Mansion! If Wario gets to copy Mario with Wario Land then it's only right that Waluigi would have his own mansion-exploration game. However the twist of this game is that as Waluigi you work with the ghosts to lay traps to scare Luigi when he comes through the new mansion! You move behind the scenes, not letting Luigi see you but making sure you spook him as his computer-controlled character traverses the house. I can already see the animated cutscenes of Waluigi and Boo high-fiving now!

1) I enjoy Waluigi as I think he is a great compliment to Wario. I enjoy the symmetry of Mario & Luigi, Wario & Waluigi. 2) Mario Kart Double Dash, I love the combination of Wario + Waluigi + Wario Car. Not to mention that his Waluiginess just feels at peak levels when he is throwing shells, banana peels, etc at other racers! 3) Wario & Waluigi! It would play similar to the Mario & Luigi. I expect that you could go around getting into trouble by pulling pranks and leveling up. A second idea would be to make Waluigi Land for the 3DS and make it a sequel to the Virtual Boy's greatest game: Wario Land. It would use the 3D effect to have foreground and background levels but still serve as a platformer. You could collect items like money to finance a media campaign or something to raise his awareness ;)

1. I've never been a fan of Waluigi. As someone who uses Wario in just about every team Mario game, Waluigi seemed like a cheap rip off of Wario. I know it's a weird thought because Wario himself is an evil rip off of Mario, but because Wario has games and a known personality, it has endeared him to me. Maybe if Waluigi ever got his one game, it might make him more likable for me. 3. A Waluigi game should be about him overcoming his evil by helping sidekicks and 2nd class characters defeat their arch enemies and win the love of fans everywhere, thus helping him escape the shadow of Wario and Luigi. This should be a puzzle game where Waluigi hides in the shadows and solves problems for the heroes helping them overcome obstacles and enemies to win

1. In his early days, I felt very "meh" about Waluigi, thinking that his character design was flat and unimaginative. (I mean, his name is really just Luigi with a "wa" in front of it? Give me a break!) But over time, his irresistible charms have won me over. This is helped in part by all the great memes, but he's also just a downright amusing character in his lovable silliness. I think the fact that he's such a badly designed character actually makes him a great one. Reverse psychology. Boom. 2. My favorite Waluigi appearance in a game is probably an unusual choice, but I'm going with Mario Hoops on the DS. That lanky boy was just built for basketball. 3. My Waluigi game would be called Waluigi Land: Shake It! It would obviously try to cash in on the name recognition of Wario Land: Shake It, but it would actually be a platforming game completely built around epic dance moves. Think Shantae, but with Waluigi instead of a belly-dancing half-genie. There would be a lot of unlockable costumes (enough to guarantee a T rating) and maybe even some dating sim elements thrown in for good measure. The Waluigi needs love too!

1. WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! (Translation: Yes, I am the biggest fan possible. I, I MEAN HE, is the coolest and more handsome then Mario.) 2. WAHHHHHH!!! (Translation: All of them. If they have me, I MEAN HIM, they're all great.). 3. WAHHAHHAHAHA!! Waa. WAHHHH!! Wah wah wah. WALUIGI NAMBA ONE! Wahhh.(Translation: A game where I, [I MEAN HIM, AS IN WALUIGI, THATS NOT ME{I'M NOT WALUIGI}] is able to beat up members of Nintendo franchises [and other 3rd party franchises as well] to show them WALUIGI NUMBA ONE! Wait...)

Anthony Padilla

1) I like the CONCEPT of Waluigi more so than the character himself. I feel like the idea of a anti-Luigi would be a good concept if properly explored; a loud-mouth, cocky and outgoing person who doesn’t care about what others think of him to act as the foil to the timid, polite and bashful Luigi. Waluigi works best when he’s trying to hog the spotlight, and Nintendo giving him the shaft is exactly why not a lot of people like him, he isn’t being given enough time to fully develop into his ideal state. 2) The absolute best instance is DDR Mario Mix, with him stealing the Music Keys and kicking the plot off. The idea that he is a lesser threat yet treats himself as the big baddie his ego thinks he is works here well. 3) Maybe continuing the dancing them, a Waluigi styled Rhythm Game with him trying to take over a kingdom by using his sick dance moves, but along the way he just ends up accidentally helping people out with his dance moves. Think of it as a mix between Elite Beat Agents and Rhythm Thief and the Emperor’s Treasure. SPOILERS!: The end of the game will have Waluigi realize the reason that so many people are amazed by his dancing skills was because he somehow wondered into a kingdom-wide dancing contest and only now just bothered to ask why everyone allowed him to act as he pleased during his dances.

Supercharged (CEO of 9-Volt)

1: Yes. I'm tall and weird, so I relate to him. Also, since so little is known about him that I enjoy the mystery behind him 2: MK Double Dash. I don't know why, but it just fits. 3: I want a humorous RPG like the GC Paper Mario Game (in tone, not necessarily art style). Or maybe a game where he's greedy like Wario but in a white collar crime way instead of a stealing treasure way.

1) I like him as a counterpart to Wario, but that’s about as far as it goes. I guess he’s never really grown on me mostly because he hasn’t had his time to shine! 2) I believe his best appearance and him at his most Waluigi-ish-ness is actually Mario Tennis Aces. I love the flair and uniqueness he has in that game and hope they can expand it going forward. 3) I feel a game category that is under utilized by Nintendo is a party dance game. Waluigi coming off his Aces spotlight (moon walking twinkle toes) would be perfect as the lead. It could be very similar to Just Dance with shenanigans added in, Mario Partyesque, like banana peels to make other characters slip on or POW blocks to stun them and they miss a dance move. Add in some wacky Waluigi weirdness (similar to WarioWare) and it’s sounds like a goldmine of multiplayer fun for all ages! PS- After writing this I think I actually like Waluigi more as a character! WAHAHAHAHA!!!

I find Waluigi somewhat charming in an unusual sense. I know he's rather divisive due to him being underutilized as a proper character. The webcomic "Brawl in the Family" certain brings about greater enjoyment than the canon games so far ever did. I don't usually play that many Mario spinoff games, so I'm not so sure which game would have been Waluigi's finest moment. However, I've seen THOSE shots of Mario Tennis: Aces. Being the co-star alongside Wario in a Wario Land or Warioware title should have happened long ago. The kind of wacky hijinks Waluigi could pull off in those games is a perfect match. For a solo title, perhaps there could be a Waluigi's Mansion. This time, Waluigi IS the terror in the Mansion.

Brett Sim

1) Not at all. I'm a huge Wario fan, so having Waluigi come along several years later felt very underwhelming. Maybe if he was introduced at the same time I would have felt differently, but as it stands I just see him as someone for Wario to play tennis with. 2) My only real exposure to Waluigi has been through the Mario Party games, so I guess I'd have to go with that. 3) Easy! Waluigi: Plumber's Apprenticeship Simulator. Waluigi doing the work of an actual plumber, in first person.

1. I wasn't that big of a fan of Waluigi last year compared to this year. Based souley on Proton Jon's twitch streams, i was able to see Waluigi for who he is... a charasmatic character who yearns to be loved by others. His portrayl by Mr Proton Jon has made me a fan, simple as that. 2. I think that DDR: Mario Mix showcased the best portrayl for Waluigi. Despite his role being a small one, he did offer the first real challenge of the game. His dance moves and plan to actually steal music from the world is really out there and very Waluigi-like. I can actually believe his character going on a plot to steal music as it's nonsensical enough, unlike the actual villan of the game. Plus the Waluigi boss theme in that game is just so good. 3. I think the best game that Waluigi would star in would be a combination of the Wario Land games and an undersea expediction in order to get a girlfriend. Motivated by greed, as well as the inspiration to get a date, Waluigi would scour the oceans in an undersea expediction to uncover the riches underneath and then use the riches to eventually shower the girl (whoever that may be) with gifts in order for her to be his girlfriend. Along the way, he would have dance offs with sharks and other wacky "wario land" type schenanigans to spruce up the underwater world theme. It combines the traits of greed (that comes from being partnered with Wario), dancing (DDR: Mario Mix), obsession to get the girl (think Mario Party 8), and swimming (as seen in Mario Power Tennis).

1) While I am a fan of Waluigi as a character, I'll admit that he is mostly only viewed as a meme character by the general public. He can be funny at time, but he isn't all that deep. 2) Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix has easily been Waluigi's best showing. He played a major role in the story and his goofy attitude was shown off. 3) I would assume Waluigi would have a platformer, but it would be more similar to Warioland then Super Mario. He could have some weird powerups, and a kingdom filled with forgotten Mario enemies and bosses (Wart!). It could be like a new Captain Rainbow!

I never cared for him or Wario for that matter

Doug Bernard

1) I can say with absolute certainty that I am completely indifferent to Waluigi. It's funny to see all of the memes and such of the character, (the "Hallelujah" parodies with Waluigi in them are a personal favorite of mine), but as a character, he really doesn't offer all that much. He was created for the purpose of being Wario's partner in sports-related crime and I really don't see him as much other than that. The majority of people who like him so much seem to only really like him for the comedic meme value of the character. If it wasn't for that I don't really think Waluigi would be all that loved. 2) While I never played the game myself, my money is on Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix for the Gamecube. Apparently, Walugi was a villain in that game and you had to defeat him in a dance-off to win an item needed to advance the story. He was apparently responsible for kickstarting the game's plot into action in the first place. That really seems to capture the essence of Waluigi to me. He's just a random guy who's spiteful, mean, and zany just for the sake of it. Also the idea of Waluigi in a dance battle with Mario is absurd enough to really emphasize how the character is seen mainly as a joke character. 3) If I were to head the creation of a Waluigi game, I'd title it Super Waluigi Quest. The game would be an old-school RPG similar in playstyle to something like Earthbound. The game would feature Waluigi in his personal quest to become popular. His journey would take him through various Nintendo themed worlds like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and others where Waluigi would slowly Waluigi-ize the worlds he travels through and recruit new allies that are Waluigi versions of famous Nintendo characters similar to how Mario+Rabbids has Rabbid versions of Mario characters. All of Waluigi's attacks he'd learn would be based on his sports game showings. For example, he could wack enemies with his tennis racket. It would be a very self-aware game that emphasizes comedy and I think a lot of people would really enjoy it.

Thom Alger 1.Oh, he's certainly one of my favorites. I really like his design, and the way he behaves. I use him alot in games available. 2.ooh, I don't know. Hard choice. I liked his appearance in the opening and bloopers In that one mario tennis game? He hasn't done all that much outside of that. 3.Probably an RPG. Maybe it could be about waluigi always being just be him barely missing out on being in games, but not realizing it. Fun fact, I've already thought about how it would be revealed, whatever kind of game it would be. First, it's a white screen with the Luigi's Mansion remake in the center. Luigi walks over and picks it up, holding all his other games. Then, wario appears, bumping into Luigi, taunting him with his games. (Wario has had more games,.right?) Then mario appears, with all his games visible in some form or fashion. Maybe there's a tidal wave of his games. Then waluigi walks on screen, with no games. Then the camera focused in on waluigi, then he either A. Gets an idea, shows game, or B. Just shows game without the idea part, or some variation of that. Side note: I'm Dylan Alger, Thom Alger's son! Credit me! I wrote this!

Thom Alger

1) I love waluigi. He's been my Mario kart main since he's come out. He's lanky, long, and equally obnoxious. 2) My vote would be for Mario golf toadstool tour. That's peak waluigi for sure. The taunts, his dance, everything. That or Mario tennis aces. His victory dance is fantastic. #RoseWaluigi. 3) I side with game trailers on this one. A waluigi dating sim.

1) I think waluigi is an interesting character strictly from a design standpoint. Every other Mario character is somewhat rounded. Mario, Luigi, Wario, Toad, Yoshi, peach, etc. They're all round bodies with somewhat proportional limbs, but waluigi throws that design philosophy out the window. He's intentionally unpleasant to look at, which immediately defines his personality. Contrast that with wario who initially just looked like an exaggerated "bad" Mario. 2) his best appearance is in the opening to one of the GameCube Mario sports games, I think it was power tennis where he and wario are shown to be friends for the sake of beating the Mario Bros. I think it helps to define his character. 3) waluigi is kind of like tingle he sticks out in the games he made his first appearance in, and I think he needs something nutty like tingles freshly picked rosy ruppeeland to give him a world where his character design is the norm for everyone.

1) I actually honestly like Waluigi. His persona of basically an evil luigi is both funny and satisfying at the same time. The character brings a different joy to a Mario franchise that for years was basically about 2 main protagonists. When Waluigi and Wario were introduced that was a quick pull o the direction of wanting to see them more and use them in game. 2) I’d have to say of all his appearances, I would pick the Mario Kart Franchise. Why? Simple, the game is based on breaking your friends and families spirit with shells, stars and bombs. I see Waluigi as a character who lives to do that to all of his opponents. 3) a Waluigi game, one could only dream but man would it be awesome. I would want a Waluigi game basically playing tricks and pranks on all the Mario characters. Like set traps through tunnels and such and have Mario and Luigi suffer through the courses. I’m sure after all these years some of us wouldn’t mind seeing Mario struggle a bit for once. The name? Waluigi’s Redemption......that sounds deep. Please make this.

1. I love Waluigi mainly because he is purple. It is such a good color for a trickster like him! 2. His best appearance has to be in Mario Kart 8 and 8 Deluxe. He seems right at home messing up other people's races. I use him more than anyone else on Mario Kart. 3. We need an open world RPG, and why not skip over Mario and just make it a Waluigi game? I would be fine with it! Longshot of something like that, but I think it would be a statement by Nintendo that you never know what they will cook up next!!

1 - I am not a fan of Waluigi on simple merit that he stole my Let's Go! theme issue away from me. Give it back Waluigi! I'm more excited for those games than any other this year! 2. I think Mario Tennis Aces was probably his best appearance. The game having a story mode gave both him and Wario some needed time in the spotlight. 3. Give Waluigi a sports game to himself where all he does is sabotage other people's equipment. Seems fitting.

1) I remember not being too keen on Waluigi when I first saw him...He felt like a good idea to give Wario a partner, and Luigi his own rival...But then nothing was really done with the concept. This changed upon discovering Matthew Taranto's webcomic, "Brawl In the Family". and I instantly fell in love with the depiction of him there, and then realizing just how important he is to the Mario spinoff games. He's now one of my favorite Mario characters! 2) The game that I think Waluigi was best depicted in was "Mario Party 3". Mainly because, as his debut into that series, they gave him the honor of being the final playable character boss in story mode. The idea that he stole and vandalized Luigi's map for that game was perfect for him. 3) I think a game starring Waluigi would work best with a scenario making fun of his status in having no games, as well as his zany humor similar to the WarioWare series. It would be called "Waluigi's Time Machine!" and feature him stealing a time-travel device from E. Gadd or Dr. Crygor, traveling to various Nintendo games with the intention of ruining them so Nintendo will only make "GOOD WALUIGI GAMES FROM NOW ON!" only to turn out to be the reason those games were successes to begin with. Like one level could be him trying to ruin Luigi's Mansion, only to turn out to be the one who gave E. Gadd the idea for the ghost portrait machine to begin with. It would be more puzzle game than anything, though I think a full click and point adventure with the concept would be great.

1. I neither like or dislike the guy. 2. I really like him in the new MARIO tennis aces. His suave move to get to the ball and perform a trick shot are totally the kind of thing I would expect from him. 3. I think they should make a game called “Wah-Wah-Waluigi” where it is similar to “Yoshi’s Island” and you have to keep babies safe from “villains”. The catch is the “babies” are really just sacks of coins that Wario is trying to get you to smuggle out of the mushroom kingdom. Waluigi is just too gullible for his own good (he is tricked various times through his adventure).

1. HUGE Waluigi fan. his over-the-top evilness is refreshing in an age of sympathetic villains. Plus, his mustache is amazing. 2. I will always hold a soft spot in my heart for his debut in Mario Tennis 64. He was my go-to guy with his height and awkward movements. But Mario Kart has solidified him due to exposure and power. Wish i could say Super Smash Bros., but maybe next iteration......? 3. I'd love to see a Waluigi 3d adventure game. It would take place after Mario defeated Wario in an attempt to overthrow the Mushroom Kingdom, and Waluigi has to pick up the pieces to assemble an army and storm the castle. Kind of like a reverse protagonist.

1. WAAAAAAHY would anyone not be a fan of Waluigi? Sure he's a little awkwardly proportioned, but his quirky personality and strange abilities make him a constant favorite of mine. I love how he acts oddly charming with his special move in Mario Tennis Aces, where he whips out a rose and snaps his finger all nonchalantly. Also there's nothing quite like a well placed taunt in Mario Party yelling either "cheater!" or "You're lousy!" Whenever Waluigi is there you're sure to have a WAAAAHNDERFUL time. 2. My favorite Waluigi depiction has to be his most recent in Mario Tennis Aces. I mean he's got it all in the game! He's got charm with his special move, where he has a rose in his mouth, he can moonwalk, he's a top tier character, and the most important thing of all is that slick hair. It's just so suave! 3. What if Waluigi was in a dating simulator game? Of course this is no average dating sim, since you're playing as Waluigi your goal is to actually the opposite of most dating sims! In classic Waluigi fashion you are jealous of all the love and romance around you. So, you decide to take things into your own hands and pull off a variety of nefarious pranks to interrupt couple's romantic moments. It would be filled with lots of hilarious antics and hijinks maybe even Wario could join in on the fun. Best of all, you could have some mysterious rival prankster, who is committing similar shenanigans as you. Towards the end of the game you discover that this rival prankster is a girl in your class and that she too has jealousy towards all the happy couples. Waluigi and this female prankster can bond through their jealousy finally giving Waluigi the happy ending he deserves.

2. Waluigi's greatest gaming appearance thus far has been (spoiler alert) the unifying final boss in Octopath Traveler that ties all the stories together. What a wonderful twist! 3. Best pitch for a Waluigi's game (besides "Waluigi's Mansion"?) would be to re-commit to developing the recently revealed (but canceled) Tingle horror game. Maybe have a survival-horror type game in which your character is tasked with escaping an island filled with deadly traps and other unspeakable horrors put in place by the diabolical duo of Tingle and Waluigi.

1) Honestly, yeah. I love how big of a meme he's become, but also the way Charles Martinet portrays him. He puts genuine emotion into the way he voices Waluigi, and is mostly responsible for the wonderfully fun personality the character has today. He's also the embodiment of the wackier side of the Mario series that you can find within the core series. Stuff like WarioWare and Donkey Kong Country also embrace this, but the real wacky stuff of theirs lies purely outside 'Mario' games and within their own series, Smash Bros. not included. Waluigi, on the other hand, is strikingly absurd in all of his appearances. From swimming to the air to all his funky dance moves, he sticks out like a sore thumb compared to a lot of the others, and that's why I love him. 2) Easily Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix. Of all the games to include him, it's easily the only one to give him much of a spotlight, and oh what a spotlight it is. The wackiness of Waluigi is more than present in his appearance, being the main villain of a dancing spinoff game. His dance moves are fire and he deserves his own dancing spinoff series. 3) One of the core things most notice about Waluigi are his sick dance moves. Why not create a dancing spinoff in a similar way the Persona series has them. Like Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix, but starring Waluigi and his own WarioWare-style cast of crazy characters. There's potential for a stellar soundtrack, as well as tons of meme potential. Moreso than anything, though, it would be fun, give Waluigi his own spotlight, and it'd be as distinct as any of the other Mario sub-series. As for a name, with how much he says it in the Mario Party series, I'm gonna go with Waluigi Superstar. Or maybe perhaps, Waluigi Dancing Star. Something along those lines.

3) IMHO, Waluigi should have a really difficult platformer. Something diametrically opposed to the Wario Land series, where you could charge ahead with amazing power and never actually worry about dying (at least in 2 and 3). Waluigi, flimsy and gangly as he is, should be a twig in comparison. I'm also thinking that it should be a platformer with a lot of verticality. Where Wario was a big lump of flab and muscle who charged ahead horizontally, Waluigi's twiggyness should allow him to better move up and down. As for difficulty, I think it would be a neat way for Nintendo to branch out into harder games

W C Purdy

2) Most of the Mario Kart games post-Double Dash have done a great job of portraying him as a character, but also Mario Strikers Charged.

W C Purdy

1) Yes. I'm a fan of how he seems to be one of the most developed characters in the mario universe despite the lack of games. Unlike Mario, who has to remain clean and squeaky, the authors of things like strategy guides were allowed free reign to write in backstory information in their various publications. Not to mention all the telling voice lines and gestures and whatnot that he does. In effect, he seems like a microcosm of the "frustrated youth," where he's projects all his problems onto other people, and yet doesn't seem to understand that the problems he accuses others of are his own problems (read: Everybody cheats!). All the while, he doesn't understand why he's so depressed.

W C Purdy

3) I'd like to play a new Mario RPG that doesn't have boring game mechanics so maybe Waluigi is the hero we need? They could call it Super Cardboard Waluigi (you know cause paper is out and cardboard is IN) and he could start the game as the mayor of a misfit toys like island where are all of the obscure Nintendo characters live. I'm thinking Birdo could join his party, Lanky Kong and Kuribo Shoe Goomba (that little guy needs a name). They could also seek help from the Lost Sages Mallow and Geno. Initially they could band together to fight Wart but then the bigger objective is to get off the island to gain the recognition they deserve before they disappear into obscurity and no longer exist. Throw in some Labo kit tie-in for good measure and you have a hit! Just don't mess up the sequels Nintendo.

1) I love waluigi! I find the spin on Luigi’s character to be really neat. I have always been interested in the alter-ego and the mirror universe. Looking at Luigi’s alter makes one think of ourselves and the ways in which our alter might be different from ourselves. Neat! 2) I love his appearances in mario kart. The neat little differences in speed and power up choices makes it interesting. I often pick him for this reason. 3) I would love to see a Waluigi rogue-like game. Like a castlevania inspired romp through caves Instead of dungeons. Call it Waluigi Cave Time. Something that still has the mario flavor but a bit wacky, too. Thanks!

1. I've always found him to be the goofiest of the characters, especially with how he at first seemed to get made to give Wario a partner and ended up becoming more than that to fans. 2. I feel Mario Kart is where both he and Wario are most at their element due to the nature of sabotage the games always carry with them. It fits them perfectly. 3. I'd love to see a stealth game where Waluigi's goal is to sabotage his opponents in several different games with the gist being you get sabotaged if you get caught. Like half-minigame collection, half stealth game. Multiplayer would be fun too with that, sabotaging each other in subtly different ways and trying to be the first through a minigame challenge!

1. I genuinely love Waluigi and always have since Mario Tennis on the N64. I think I liked him originally honestly because of his lanky, awkward proportions, but now I love him for his over the top mannerisms and because I love to quote him when playing competitive Nintendo games with my friends. 2. Waluigi’s never gotten his chance to shine, but I think he’s at his peak in the Mario Party series when he’s winning, because a triumphant, gloating Waluigi is all I want in life. 3. I’d love to see him in more of an adventure style game with platforming elements than a pure platforming game. Have him in weird New Donk City style setting where he’s solving some kind of bizarre mystery adventure. Waluigi Noir

1. I am a genuine, honest-to-wa-ness Waluigi fan! He's an extremely funny character, a very mysterious character, and has so much personality compared to the other Mario characters. Despite being a clone of a clone, there's a lot unique to him and it's just criminal he doesn't appear in a non-spinoff game. Plus, that sweet stache! 2. Nothing beats Waluigi in Mario Strikers Charged. His banjo music is amazing, and because that game wasn't afraid to get a little dark and raunchy it gave us some of Waluigi's greatest moments. 3. I've always had this idea for a game called "Waluigi #1". Waluigi doesn't fit into any genre, so similar to Wario Ware, how about a game that's every genre? He's the ultimate "bad knockoff", so that's what his game would be! He picks up a rusty pipe and goes on a short adventure a la Legend of Zelda. He uses a feather duster to beat ghosts a la Luigi's mansion. There's platforming, minigames, motorcycle racing (against other Waluigis only), a Mario-Party style board, a metroidvania, a game where he's a superhero, all these different things, but all told through the dreams of Waluigi. So there's a bunch of imagery throughout of Luigi getting hurt, Waluigi finally wooing daisy, and of course Waluigi's face would be everywhere and on everything. Just a celebration of Waluigi. Because, as we all know: WALUIGI NUMBER 1!

3. What I would really love is an RPG similar to superstar saga. It would be called Wario and Waluigi partners in crime. Getting to see Waluigi interact with an entire world would help to cement his personality with Nintendo players who are unfamiliar with him. As well his special moves in combat would be hilarious as I imagine he would cheat for the bulk of them.

3. I could see a Waluigi game like that Wario Shake It game. Of course it would be about Waluigi having to save a princess, but at the end of the game after all Waluigi had go through, he just decides she's really not worth the trouble.

3. Team up Tingle and Waluigi in a platforming adventure game (ala Yooka-Laylee). They could keep messing up each other's plans unintentionally because Tingle's motivations are hazy, at best (Become a real fairy!), and Waluigi isn't sure what he's supposed to be bad about. Tingle can carry Waluigi in high areas and Waluigi can carry Tingle on his back (piggyback style) as they traverse ground areas. Or maybe a straight platformer where Tingle's balloons provide the double-jump capability for Waluigi (who already jumps high like Luigi). Needs lots of dialogue, though. I want to see the crazy circles these two can dance in trying to talk to each other!

2. Mario Kart 8. His personality gets to really show during races where he is winning but suddenly gets knocked to last.

2. I think the best game to showcase Waluigi's personality is probably Mario Power Tennis. I remember how hilarious the opening cinematic for that game was. Plus, the focus is on Waluigi and Wario, so that's probably the most we see of Waluigi being, well, Waluigi.

1. Yes, he's such a hapless character but somehow you get the feeling that he deserves all the misery he receives. If he just played fair he would probably succeed, like Dick Dasterdly.

1. I am a genuine honest fan of Waluigi have been since the first time I saw him in Mario Kart DS. I like him because i just have so many memories of him. Learning that he existed in Mario Kart DS and being similar to Luigi (another favorite character of mine) to seeing his antics in other spin off games. 2. His best in my opinion is in Mario Tennis Power Tour on the GameCube. That opening cinematic with Wario just encompasses both of them so well. I also have to give a nod to Mario Strikers, as a wrestling fan i can’t let the crotch chop go unnoticed. Let’s not forget Mario DDR (I mean how could you). 3. Oh boy this really isn’t an easy one for me. I’m just not that creative but maybe we can find a way to move in the right direction. The problem I am facing is that Waluigi has a personality but it relies heavily on Wario, similar to how Luigi did at first. At this moment at least in my uncreative mind i can’t pitch a game where the player genuinely wants him to succeed. So i think there first needs to be a Wario & Waluigi game (it could be an RPG if you like) where Waluigi’s personality and character branches a little more so that a game could be made around that. I can assure that similar to Luigi in Waluigi’s he will be the butt of a lot of jokes so maybe the game will be a soul searching game like Luigi’s Mansion. Finally it would probably be 2D, to have 3D the holes would need to be filled. I just hope the people at Nintendo have a better mind then myself.

1. I've never been a fan of Waluigi. He was a bit too much for me.

1. I'm not a fan of Waluigi, but I don't dislike him, either. Kind of hard to dislike a guy who's never really been a significant bad guy in a game. He's definitely loveable, but if Nintendo wants to provoke strong feelings about him, either way, then they need to make him a major character in a game, first.

3. I would love a slightly darker sillier themed Luigi’s Mansion game where Waluigi needs to save Luigi. The game can get really weird and stay lighthearted because, well you can’t really take Waluigi seriously! Having dance battles with Boo sounds awesome to me.

2. I would have to say Mario Kart represents him the best. I love that he laughs at his opponents when they get hit by one of his items!

1. I am a genuine fan of his. I believe his quirkiness is what attracts me to using him. I really like using him in Mario Kart and Mario Tennis. I feel like his skill sets require more strategy, he’s never overpowering or super fast so I love the challenge of mastering his playing style. I find his silliness more fun than Warios style.

3) A Rogue-like Point-and-click LEGO Space Adventure (Waluigi hates this). An MMO Tactical Bullet Hell Dating Simulator (Waluigi hates this). Episodic Open-world On-rails Psychological Match-3 Horror Pinball with Steampunk Chess Bowling (Waluigi hates this).

I’ll only do the 1st one, cause I can’t decide on 2, and I’m not creative/imaginative enough for 3. I didn’t like him at first in the original N64 Mario Tennis. His voice was so annoying. But now, he’s been oddly likeable in his newer games, and his animations & voices are hilarious! Also, the Internet LOVES Wahh-Luigi, so he makes for some excellent memes!

I was going to back that, but I forgot until after it ended. I’ve got hardcovers of all 3 volumes of BitF from his other Kickstarters (BitF, and his game, Tadpole Treble), and the first one is signed by him. I’ll definitely check this out when it comes out!

(3) A while back, the developers of Paper Mario Color Splash were asked why they aren't developing the games like they were before with the original Paper Mario games. They replied with the answer that they would be too similar to the Mario & Luigi games. What I think they should do to make everyone happy is make Paper Mario to how people like it, similar to the original games, and change Mario & Luigi to be Wario & Waluigi. A rpg focused on the both of them will give them the character development we need. We need to learn more on who exactly Waluigi is, as well as Wario. What is their relationship? Are they brothers? Good friends? Or just people who found each other and never left the others side? This game will be perfect to have us learn more about them and who they are, while making Paper Mario fans happy.

1) I love Waluigi, but mostly because he clearly doesn't belong. He's never been a real villain, he just sort of showed up one day with a "Wah, me too". And linguistically, while Wario makes sense as inverse Mario, Waluigi makes no sense at all. He exists in spite of logic. It makes him fun to pick because he's relatable. I pick Waluigi because I have no idea why I'm invited to parties. 2) I feel like Waluigi is at himself most in Mario Kart. He clearly doesn't fit in the carts. Almost as if it's a design choice to emphasize how little he actually belongs, his legs jut out awkwardly from the sides of the carts because he's just way too tall and lanky. 3) As Wario Land has been on far too long of a hiatus, I think it would be marvelous to have "Super Wario Bros". While Waluigi isn't the sole hero in the situation, it would be great to see Wario & Waluigi share the spotlight. An all new adventure with that signature weird Wario Land style, each brother having his own unique gameplay. It would really give Waluigi a chance to showcase how awkward he can be given the opportunity.

(1) not particularly. At first his concept and name sounded lazy as all get out. Later, he's just sorta there. (2) I haven't really encountered much of his stuff. I guess I would say Aces. He thinks he's the coolest. (3) This one is a bit tricky since since I'd want to exemplify his character. Mario - heroism and helpfulness. Luigi - finding his courage or testing his skills. Wario - raw strength and avarice. Waluigi? For someone stuck out of spotlight (if he's even allowed on stage), he would best be dedication to make it big. My idea would feature Waluigi fed up with being in the shadows, so he strikes out to capture the spotlight. I'm thinking a 3D platformer with contained levels and set missions. Each mission would be not too different from Sunshine but with even less respect. Boss encounters would have his efforts generally fall short and another character steps in and finishes, scooping the spotlight. The final event would be him saving the day from disaster, but his glory is taken back when we find out he inadvertently caused the issue in the first place.

1) While i'm not that big of a fan for waluigi, i don't hate him!! In my opinion, i think Waluigi hasn't been used his full potential yet, which is why i don't appreciate him as much as say, my main man Wario. 2)Well, i guess the most obvious answer here would be the Dance Dance Revolution game that Mario was in. Afterall, waluigi was the main antagonist in that game! But for more waluigi-ness, i'd say Mario Tennis Aces. Waluigi was literally made for those type of games! 3)One really popular example of Waluigi having his own game was Psycho Waluigi. I think this shows that waluigi would really excel if he had his own spin-off series of WarioLand games, or something. Waluigi isn't that strong though, so maybe he could squeeze through stuff instead! He is pretty lanky after all. Maybe it could be called "Waluigi World", ha ha!

Justin7885

1) Are you a fan of Waluigi? Like a genuine, honest fan? If so, why do you like him? If not, why do you dislike him? Absolutely. I love that he’s the yin to Wario’s yang. I love the way he walks with outlandish unnecessary movements. I love that Nintendo Japan seems to refuse to accept him as a canonized mario character. Perhaps because Camelot invented him, not Nintendo. 2) Of all the appearances Waluigi has had in different games over the last 18 years, which one was his best? Which game displayed him at his peak of Waluigi-ish-ness? And why do you think so? Naturally this would be Mario Strikers Charged. His crotch-chop maneuver was so inappropriate and yet so amazing. 3) Finally, Waluigi has never headlined his own game before. Maybe that's part of his popularity problem! Give us your best pitch for what kind of game would work best with Waluigi as the lead character. What would it be called? How would it play? The works! —- That’s a great question. Like Wario, he would best be used in a role that Mario or Luigi simply could not do, on account of it tarnishing their good names. I’m thinking of using Waluigi in a Conker’s Bad Fur Day sort of role. Let Nintendo make the M-rated disturbed, twisted, dialogue-heavy 3D platforming game they could never do before, and put Waluigi in the starring role. Multi-million seller right there. Either that, or else make a Metal Gear styled action/espionage thriller starring Waluigi. These are two fantastic pitches. Take your pick.

3. There were a couple of Nintendo DS games starring the Legend of Zelda’s infamous Tingle. However, they were never released in North America, presumably due to the character’s lack of popularity here. So, here’s an easy solution: Nintendo should retool those games to star Waluigi! That way Waluigi would finally get to be a star, North American audiences would get to play those games, and there would be minimal effort involved on Nintendo’s part. (All they’d have to do is swap the characters. Waluigi is weird enough that they could leave everything else the same and it would just be part of Waluigi’s bizarre existence.)

1) I was neve a genuine fan of Waluigi - I wouldn't pick him instinctively while playing Mario Party or Mario Kart. However, I've never had any reason to dislike him. I thought he was a really cool looking character the very first time I saw him on the side of a Go-Gurt Mario Party DS advertisement when I was in Kindergarten! 2) I think the games that best portrayed Waluigi were in the Mario Golf: TT and Mario Power Tennis during the opening trailers. 3) Idk, Waluigi's mansion? Where the ghosts are afraid of the WAH...yea...!

1) Personally, I don’t think waluigi serves enough of a purpose for me to like him as much as the other mario characters. Don’t get me wrong, he at least has the personality trait of wanting the spotlight all the other mario characters get, but for the most part since he was originally created to be Luigi’s rival in a tennis game and has NEVER gotten a game of his own like Wario has, I find little to no reason to really care about him or any of his desires (especially when it comes to making him a playable character in smash bros). 2) if I had to pick a game where waluigi served the most purpose, it would definitely be dance dance revolution: mario mix on GameCube because it’s the one game where Waluigi gets to play the main villain, we finally get to see some of waluigi’s desires in life (such as being the greatest dancer), and (for a short time, in anything other than a sports/party game) we finally see Waluigi succeed in what he sets out to do. 3) if waluigi were to get his own game, I think it should definitely be a platformer (2D or 3D) in which waluigi wants to step out of his brothers (and every other mario characters) shadow to finally become important and somewhat respected in the mushroom kingdom. It would be called Waluigis War on the Worlds, and in each world, waluigi would invade a certain characters gameplay style (world 1 could be traditional mario, world 2 could be Luigi’s mansion, world 3 could be yoshi’s island, etc) and would screw up each world with each one he completed. The final world could see waluigi invade other Nintendo properties (in a desperate attempt for maximum popularity) until finally coming across the only being that could get waluigi his own game: Master Hand. Waluigi would start out the fight with just his tennis racket from his assist trophy days but after being almost defeated combines each of the skills he learned from the other worlds to make a fully playable smash character. The game would end with Nintendo itself taking notice of waluigi and promising to give him the same treatment as all the other mario characters......only to completely erase waluigi’s memory of the game he was just in and going back to where he was at the start of the game.

Am I a fan of Waluigi? He's like your creapy uncle, everyone has one but you didn't ask for one. Just always lurking around but never really there.

1) I'm probably not Waluigi's biggest fan, but I approve of him for sure. Wario needs a cohort in crime, so he makes sense. He's got that love-it-or-hate-it laugh that always makes it a blast playing Mario Party with other people. It's infectious. 2) I think Waluigi's appearance in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! has been his best so far. He was a fun, expressive character to use, and he even had his very own Waluigi Stadium track in that game! That was such an intense course with all those fiery hoops and mud pools! I'm so fired up just thinking about it! Bhwahahaha! 3) Waluigi should absolutely get his very own game, and that game should be.. Waluigi's Crazy Golf! Just think about it. His eccentric personality would absolutely shine on a wacky miniature golf course. Also, everyone loves putt-putt. It would finally make him a star!

Am I a waluigi fan? Kinda. I think he is funny but not as important as Luigi. For #2 I have to say the new tennis aces. Why? Well he actually does something evil and isn't just there. For #3 How about a luigi's mansion spon off waa luigi's mansion. The original mansion game was my favorite game ever, so I would love to see the purple plumber try to save warrior from king boo who at the end is in a giant Mario costume. It is kind of a parody, but it's dope.....I guess....yea....dope. -nightfight3

1. As a fellow lanky man with a moustache, I absolutely love Waluigi! I genuinely enjoy his antics, his snickering WAH's, but most importantly his physicality is just made for slapstick. He stomps around in elf shoes and falls on his big nose, it's always good for a laugh! 2. Mario Power Tennis really made me fall in love with the character. I had seen him before in the N64 predecessor, but this game showed his tricky personality off front-and-center in the opening cutscene AND we got plenty of Waluigi antics in the blooper reel as well. I watched that SO MANY times as a kid and still find it funny to this day! 3. I'm going full puzzle game on this one! Waluigi likes to trick and toy with people, so I think a fast-paced puzzle game like Puzzle League would suit him excellently! I imagine there'd be chaotic multiplayer with power-ups that let you mess with your opponent, and a story mode all about his rise to fame in the puzzle circuit! Who else but a devilish rogue like Waluigi to sneak away with the grand prize?

2 Only. Super Mario Strickers for the Gamecube. When Waluigi scores a goal this pretty much shows his peak personality. Just watch it online and you will understand.

1. Am I a fan of Waluigi? Without ever starring in his own game I find it difficult to opine. Our relationship with him as fans will remain superficial until Nintendo finally decides to let us follow him on an adventure in a game with him as the star. I eagerly await that day. 2.) Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix was Walugi's closest chance to a breakthrough role that might have catapulted him into the hearts and minds of Nintendo fans forever, not as a meme-able sideshow, but as a true character. Perhaps it was the limited appeal of the genre, or the disappointingly easy gameplay, but in the aftermath of the game, Waluigi didn't seem to have the character breakthrough that I was predicting. 3.) Waluigi was born to be bad. I would love to see Waluigi star in an adventure-stealth game where we control Waluigi and a gang of minions through a series of stealth missions and heists as he covertly steals hoards of coins from treasuries all over the Mushroom Kingdom to achieve some selfish (but harmless) fantasy. Imagine Waluigi sneaking past legions of Toads (who guard the vaults housing mountains of gold) on his way to illegitimate fortune. Stealth/heist is something that I would be incredibly excited to see Nintendo's take on.

1) I am mostly indifferent to the character. Honestly I don’t find him appealing in the least and I would rather focus more on Wario as I find him a more compelling character. If they gave him more of a chance though I could come around. 2) Oddly Mario Tennis Aces on Switch I think gave him the most personality. In particular his special move. 3) So my pitch for a Wario game comes from something I have considered. I would tell the story of how Wario stopped being a pirate and started living in Diamond city. Essentially the game would star Waluigi and would essentially describe how Waluigi took over the pirate business from Wario. The gameplay would be a 2d platformer on Nintendo 3ds. The gimmick would be switching from top to bottom screen as well as multiple planes (think Kirby triple deluxe). Have some shout outs to previous Wario game enemies. Maybe have genius sonority as the lead devs to have an outside perspective (which also works for a outsider like Waluigi).

1. I've been a Waluigi superfan for so long that it's impossible for me to perceive a universe without Waluigi. From his pointed stache to his charming personality, this underappreciated Nintendo character needs the spotlight that he's deserved for so long. 2. Mario Tennis Aces is a perfect display of Waluigi at peak performance. From the moment I laid eyes on his Special Shot, as he spun in circles with a rose in his mouth, I knew instantly that someone at Nintendo truly understands Waluigi. 3. With Mario already the hero of the Mushroom Kingdom, Waluigi embarks into deep space to find a kingdom where he can be admired as the hero. Waluigi: Galaxy Quest is a spaceship management roguelike strategy game where you play as Waluigi, a space pirate, on his journey to a planet in need of a hero. Along his way through randomly-generated deep space, Waluigi will be faced with countless decisions and battles that could mean life or death for him and his crew.

1) I feel like Waluigi is just a fun character. He’s got his mischievous and charismatic personality that makes him a enjoyable character. 2) Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix Peak Waluigi performance right there 3) I think if there was a stealth game about Waluigi attempting to steal things in the most flamboyant way would be really fun.

1) WAH! 2) Mario Kart Double Dash. Just going around with Wario throwing bombs and dead turtles at everyone 3) Legend of Zelda Breath of the WAH

1) Wah-bsolutely. Wah, don't question my intentions. I love how he's one of the only Mario series characters not created through a major title, and he just kind of showed up in Mario Tennis and tried to cement himself as a rival to Luigi, not even slightly being related to the Mario family, Luigi probably having never seen him before, so he's this unknown, chaotic, antagonist to a character who is a sidelined and frequently forgotten sidekick to the series protagonist. Like where did he come from, who invited him, and why does he keep showing up... Chaos, and I love him for it. 2) Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix. Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix. The story just fits perfectly for Waluigi's need for chaos and attention. He steals the Music Keys so that he can take over the world and spread chaos across the land using his mad dancing skills. 3) Taking inspiration from Mario Kart 7, Waluigi's Pinball Chaos. The Mario series hasn't had a pinball game since the GBA, and it's already sorta canon, so why not... plus it sorta suits Waluigi, an obscure character getting a game in a sorta non-mainstream genre.

1) I'm a casual fan of Waluigi. I like Wario having a buddy, and Luigi having a Wa-version of himself...but I don't have a HUGE connection to the purple man himself. That said...I love how "bizarre" Nintendo likes to make him. Case in point, his Hole-in-One/Birdie animations in Mario Golf World Tour are hilarious. 2) Waluigi shines most when he gets to have his own personality; so I think I'll stick with Mario Golf: World Tour as his best outing. Golf is a solo sport, so he's not pigeonholed into the role of "Wario's Doubles partner" in that one. 3) I think the best direction for a Waluigi game to go in would be akin to where Luigi's Mansion took Luigi. Make a new setting with a new supporting cast member or two, and keep Wario's appearance to a cameo or two at most. As for a specific setting, I actually think a light-stealth/sabotage game would fit Waluigi. Sorta like how Kingdom Battle is Nintendo XCOM, make a Waluigi game into Nintendo Metal Gear or Nintendo Splinter Cell.

3) Waluigi's Tech Support. Waluigi works in the escalation department for a company like Apple, so he only receives calls when the "front lines" employees are unable to resolve an issue. In this fully voice acted text adventure with puzzle solving elements (akin to the Zero Escape games, but with 106% more Wah), you must simultaneously try to help already annoyed customers resolve their tech support issues while trying not to annoy them any further. Then, after you have finished, you must successfully sell them a warranty or service plan for their product, because that's the sort of thing Waluigi would do.

1) I LOVE HIM! He, unlike most Mario Characters, has so personality, great moments, and a fanbase that rivals the likes of Mario himself. 2) Definitely Power Tennis on the GameCube. In that game, it is one of the only times we see him and Wario, wondering around and causing trouble. We also see them interact with Bowser, and we really are put into how bad of a villan Waluigi acctualy is, along with some good slapstick. Finnaly, in the games "bloopers" when Bowser get electrocuted and falls onto the ground, you hear Waluigi walk onto the "set" and say "Don't expect CPR" in his iconic voice. This is one of the only dialogue jokes in a Mario game and I find that special. 3)I would want a game where Waluigi goes into other games, maybe from the NES to the Wii era, trying to steal the spotlight from other characters in third own games, like Kirby's Adventure, Pokemon, Yoshi's Island, Luigi's Mansion, Kid Icarus, etc. Ending off in a battle with Mario after He finds out that Waluigi acctualy changed history and has become the new Nintendo mascot. I like the idea and it can lead to alot of unique ideas.

1) I've been a fan of Waluigi since his introduction in Mario Tennis on Nintendo 64. At the time, I liked him because coming from the perspective of a real life tennis player, he was able to play tennis in such a unique way and was able to return basically any ball.

Joe Holaska

Pass on Waluigi. I vote for extensive Octopath Traveler coverage in the next issue of NF.

3. Maybe include him in the next Wario Land game, where as opposed to Wario's brutish style of powering through opponents, Waluigi could be a more technical and agile character.

1. Honestly, I used to not be a huge fan of Waluigi, but he's weaseled his way into my heart. I think this is just because throughout his several appearances, he's started to form a bit of a "personality" whereas when he first showed up in Mario Tennis 64, he just seemed like an unnecessary add-on character. As he's grown into a character, he's also grown on me. Besides, everyone likes a good villain. 2. I feel like Mario Tennis Aces is genuinely hitting peak Waluigi. With this game, it almost seems like Nintendo is fully embracing how odd and weird Waluigi is. Now if we could only get him in Smash.... 3. Honestly a stealth game would be sort of fun for Waluigi. Imagine this: You have to sneak around the mushroom kingdom (In smaller areas), setting various traps and snares for Toads, Koopas, etc. under a time limit. Once the time limit expires, your plan sets into motion and you get to see how well you planned it all out . All in the name of creating just general unhappiness and chaos, which seems to be Waluigi's main motivation.

2. Mario Tennis Aces and his moonwalking.

1. I like him, even he is a filler Mario Spin-Off Character at heart.

Response to #3) Waluigi’s Money Stash - An RPG in the vein of Paper MARIO Thousand year door / color splash where Wario’s money has been recovered/donated to the people of the Mushroom Kingdom and it’s up to Waluigi to steal it back in each of the different areas of Super MARIO lore. (Bosses can even be good guys - MARIO/princess/toad) Graphics would’ve similar to color splash, very colorful. Gameplay more rpg heavy, level up and gain loads of evil/money stealing abilities .. coming soon 😈

I’ve never been a fan of Waluigi, but I never disliked him either.

Hilariously, my love for Waluigi mainly stems from the Brawl in the Family comics drawn by Matthew Taranto (yes, that one). His depiction of Waluigi as a mustachioed mischief-maker made me laugh like no other, to the degree that I immediately contributed to his Kickstarter “TOO BAD. WALUIGI TIME,” starting Waluigi himself.

1. Waluigi is fine in my eyes, I think his outgoing nature is a good foil to Luigi’s shyness and fear. In this way I see him as a good fit in the Mario universe, but I am not necessarily a fan of him, nor do I dislike him. 2. Waluigi’s best appearance was super Mario Strikers Charged. He gained all of his elements in that game, from the infamous air hump to the use of rose bushes as his special. He had personality in games like Toadstool Tour but I could feel his character strongest in strikers charged. 3. Waluigi’s character seems to have a central fault: lust. Just like how Wario’s greed is the highlight for games like Wario Ware, Waluigi needs a game centered on his theme. Therefore, meet “Waluigi’s Sunset”: a game that plays like a mix between Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley, Waluigi builds up a town and pays off debts to Wario as he searches for a true romance among the town’s residents.

By far his best appearance was in the Mario DDR game, a obscure(ish) and wacky game for an obscure (ish) and wacky character!

1) No, I've honestly never understood the appeal of him or Wario. They seem to me like basic clunky sideshow characters. 2) I find him pretty forgettable and honestly I couldn't name a specific game here. 3) Maybe some sort of game with him as a mad scientist?

Andrew Roque

I love waluigi, why? Just look at him...he’s the coolest of them all! I always play as waluigi in games and the only amiibo i own is waluigi.
