Issue #23: A Fresh Coat of Paint – September/October 2016

Our latest issue is on its way to subscribers!

For this edition, we were faced with some difficult choices for potential cover position games. We considered Metroid Prime: Federation Force, but fan reaction has been so intensely negative toward that one that we didn't think people would appreciate it being placed front and center – and especially since Nintendo's celebration of Metroid's 30th anniversary, beyond releasing that divisive game, has simply been to add a few Metroid-related clothing items to Miitomo.

We ultimately landed on Paper Mario: Color Splash, which also met with an unfavorable first impression from longtime fans of its series when it was unveiled earlier this year. But the backlash against it was not quite as severe as Federation Force's, so we thought it might offer us an opportunity to discuss just what it is about these new games that's inspiring such intense emotions in Nintendo fans.

And more than a discussion, we actually debate the different sides of the issue within this new issue. The central feature is called "The Great Fresh Coat of Paint Debate," and pairs of our Nintendo Force team members square off against one another to offer opposing viewpoints on Federation Force, Color Splash, Mighty No. 9 and other recent polarizing projects. There are strong feelings toward these titles, and everyone's opinion is valid, so we strived to present a representative voice for all of our readers.

I hope you all enjoy the debate! These have certainly been some tricky waters to wade into, as it's easier when Nintendo's rolling out new games that are almost universally loved – but we've got plenty of those coming in the months ahead, like Pokémon Sun & Moon and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. We're in a more difficult period of time as fans right now, but we didn't want to sugarcoat that!

Digital subscribers will be able to download this issue beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, August 24.

Roughly one week later, digital access will be made available through the Magzter app as well.

And about one week after that, the print editions will start rolling into everyone's mailboxes. Most print copies should be delivered by early-to-mid September.

Thank you all once again for your patronage, and I hope you enjoy this all-new issue of NF Magazine!

Well, more like most people, I've given it a chance, I was actually excited by it when it was announced.

I to love Federation Force, I was actually excited by its announcement over a year ago, as was my boyfriend.

:)

Can't wait! I'm so excited!!!!!

You do use dropsend to download the digital copy, unless you have magzter

Can I get some help with all this?

I canceled my account on DropSend, but if I had to be a member in order to get my digital copy of Nintendo Force...

I was surprised when I was told that I was a member of DropSend without my consent.

Did I have to be a member of DropSend to access my digital copy?

How do I access my loadable copy?

Benjamin Weitz

I really want to read it digitally, but I'm going to wait until it is in my mailbox!

I can't understand the hate towards either.

I still haven't receive the link to download the digital issue!

How do I download this issue

Hey there, I have a question: my card hasn't been charged yet, and I had the money saved up for my patronage charge. When can I expect to be charged?

Metroid isn't exactly a popular series.

We've got something in the works to be included with our next issue, #24. So we'll be talking about it very soon!

The Nintendo Force

Maybe a general Metroid themed retrospective next month? It kills me to see it's 30th get so ignored by the masses

Zachary

But what about the "stretch goal?" We've heard nothing on it yet. Is an update coming soon?

I bought and really enjoyed Metroid Prime Federation Force. It's a shame people won't give it a chance.

You shouldn't worry so much about initial reactions of spoiled Nintendo fans. I have Federation Force and have been really enjoying it for the spin-off it is. I think in the years to come, as a collector, MP:FF would have been a better choice. Just think of the initial reactions to Wind Waker. Now it's a fan favorite. Just my two cents...
