Luffy’s greatest strength is his heart and because of that he is able to push himself beyond his limits. His last attack literally made him immobile. In regards to their power ups, I feel like even though we don’t get to see them training, it’s somewhat safe to say that most of it has to do with the fights they get into and the hardships of everyday living. Luffy learned by watching CP9’s techniques. He’s a natural born fighter, instinctual, so it was easier for him to level up.
