I love the OPLA, the acting is perfect and as you said, the actors are perfectly chosen. What I dislike is the Garp plotline, it doesn´t sit right with me but I guess the production value got shrunken down by it, since they could reuse many scenery and backgrounds for multiple scenes instead of switching often. Meaning that I can let them get away with that. However I hate how they butchered Arlongpark. There are quite cool things don´t get me wrong but the way that Genzo was nearly to nothing but an unimportant sidecharacter, instead of the guy we had deep connections with ALTHOUGH he is a just sidecharacter makes me mad. Changeing it that the Cocoyashi doesn´t know about Nami trying to save them all takes away from the emotional connection between Nami and the Village and especially Nojiko, the one and only person Nami could talk to, not knowing makes her character absolutely pointless. She should´ve known better instead of starting to hate her. Namis backstory overall felt rushed and Bellemere was merely a sidecharacter aswell, that we didn´t even get to know of. The decision to tell Arlong just because there were plates and the little fight she had with Nami came more off as stupid, like just pay the damn money and everyone lives "happy", telling Arlong and the two won´t live happy anymore. In the anime/manga ist was handled with much more care, in a way that this decision to tell Arlong was funded much more on emotion and relationship, that didn´t come off as good in this version imo. They should´ve taken their time with it and make 9 episodes for it. And you can´t tell me that the backstory did take as much budget as fights, so why shorten them? So my main critique has a cheap solution in the script.

2023-10-06 14:12:58 +0000 UTCIt's understandable wanting more screen time with the Straw Hats, I would like that too lol. In the anime, the story is centered around them with just a few episodes of side characters we've come to know and love for a brief time. For the LA, it's half and half with the Straw Hats and the Marines for every episode. It makes sense with it being only 8 episodes and with the story being so condensed, I feel like the Marines(Garp) storyline is there to sort of help with filling in some of the gaps because of it. Which gives us this LA storyline that has new and different interactions, conversations, flashbacks, and timelines that are not in the anime. EMILY RUDD IS FANTASTIC! and she definitely nailed the "Help Me" scene.
