If you remember Luffy's flashback with Shanks at the bar, when that bandit threw beer all over Shanks, Shanks told Luffy it wasn't worth getting angry about but then attacked the bandit when he kidnapped Luffy, claiming he won't forgive anyone who hurts his friends, just like how Luffy is about to pull up to Bellamy for hurting his friend. Shanks really had a strong influence on Luffy
