Toning Paper : Part 1
Added 2025-08-26 17:52:16 +0000 UTCPaper: Arches Water color paper 140 lb, hot press.
Tone: Sennelier Ink Walnut Stain mix with Water (2 tbs water, 2 or 3 syringes of ink) per piece.
Apply: Window shade the ink mixture onto the paper working left to right, do not start in the middle of the paper.
Notes: I use the back of the paper for more texture, (i hate drawing on smooth paper) Apply two coats of color if needed. You can even adjust the hue, so there is a warm first layer and a slightly color sub layer. Tone paper on a soft surface or, in my case, a yoga matt. If the surface is uneven where you apply the water based ink it could imprint on the paper.

Thank-you very much for sharing this. I've seen beautiful drawings done on toned paper and because I haven't had formal training, I have no idea how to tone paper. I greatly appreciate the basics ππ»
