Amos's Aventures #1: Discord Events / Watch Parties

Hullo and welcome to Amos’s Adventures! These are going to be some occasional posts where I share my tech thoughts and experiences. Sometimes we’ll laugh, sometimes we’ll commiserate, but we’ll always geek out together. I might dive into something DTNS-related, like this week, or just share random tech musings that we can all chat about—good, bad, or just plain weird.

Let’s kick things off with a little passion project of mine: Discord Watch Parties! 🎉

As many of you know (and most of you heard on today’s show), we’re going to be watching Apple’s big “Glowtime” event live in Discord! Not sure when these watch parties became a thing, but once I discovered them, I had to make them official. There’s something special about seeing everyone’s live reactions to Apple’s latest “innovations.” Whether it’s hilarious or thought-provoking, the DTNS audience always comes through with some great takes. Eventually, I’d love to turn these into an even bigger deal, but for now, they’re just plain fun.

So, if you’re wondering what I’m rambling on about, here’s the scoop:

Whenever major tech companies have big announcements, we watch them live, stream them to Discord, and take notes together. Usually, it’s Tom and me hosting (but that could change), and everyone in Discord is welcome to join in the chat. It’s a great way for us to get a feel for what YOU are excited about, which sometimes totally surprises us. And for you, it’s a chance to give us input on how we cover the event on DTNS!

Now, we’d love to do this for every major announcement, but there are a few catches:

1. It needs to happen at a time that works with our production schedule.

2. There should be a big keynote or presentation.

3. And, of course, we need to think the DTNS audience will be into it.

That said, we almost always cover Apple events, but we’re totally open to suggestions for others. If you think something would make for a great watch party, hit me up on Discord and I’ll run it by the team.

You can find upcoming events at the top of the DTNS Discord channel list under “Events.” And, as a heads-up, I’ll also post a link on Patreon a few days in advance, so our Patrons can be sure to join.

That’s it for now! Hope to see you in Discord on Monday for the Apple event!

Salut!

-Amos

Let’s go! I’ll be working but I’ll make some time to schedule my breaks around it.
