I mean if you define loss leader that way sure. But I do think it’s logical to sell printers cheap on the premise that you can make your money selling the ink. I don’t think they’d be pursuing it if it didn’t work. It’s our job as consumers then to not buy it to show them that it doesn’t work.

2024-01-24 15:06:58 +0000 UTCRegarding this HP printer topic, I’m not buying the “loss leader” response to why HP needs an ink subscription to keep up. Loss leaders work in an environment where there are hundreds of other items( think Costco) that they can make up the loss with. HP sells two things; printers and ink. Not a lot of wiggle room to make up for the loss leader. Come on HP, price your printers correctly, let us use any ink and, for the love of all things good, quit annoying us with ink ads when all we want to do is just print that stupid document.

I listening to the first half hour of the Podcast version of the Apple Vision Workshop. So far I agree with everything and I think they have found their niche. I think it’s going to be a winner.
