GDI Video - Does the Judge Play Call of Duty? - DTNS 4558Extended

YouTube Link

Thinking about upgrading your PC but not sure where to start? Will Smith is here to give us pointers on your PC upgrade path. A judge has ruled *against* a preliminary injunction to stop Microsoft and Activision-Blizzard from completing their merger. Did Microsoft win? And a Pew Research Center study indicates 59% of US adults surveyed see TikTok as either a major or minor threat to national security.

The United Federation of Platforms - GDI 4558 starts at 31:56

Will has thoughts on where we are going with the Fediverse. So many protocols. How do you moderate things when so many are on the same protocol?  Do you care what server you are on? Why can’t social media be more like email? Will Meta ever connect to the Fediverse? Would you want just a link sharing site? How much agency do you want? The group shared some stories about posting things on social media by accident. How good do you feel airplane WIFI has been recently? Have you been watching Silo? There is so much yelling in The Bear.

Starring Tom Merritt, Sarah Lane, Will Smith, Roger Chang, Joe.

Ahh interesting. And they’re more likely to come back to Threads later that way too

Daily Tech News Show

I have thoughts on why Meta might want to implement ActivityPub. To paraphrase Star Wars: "Meta doesn't need Threads to win, they need Twitter to lose" Threads is having a massive influx of users right now due to the appeal of being new. After a while if users are not satisfied, they will leave. On a closed system, they would just return to Twitter. If Threads is federated, users would also potentially have been introduced to a variety of other options, and may chose to go to them instead. (And depending on how the federation is implemented, they may be able to move their profile with them) Meta already has a large portion of the world using it's products. I feel that Threads is more about removing users from Twitter than it is about building a successful product
