Where Does this Lead? Apple scanning images and checking hashes, for illegal matches, where does that lead. Once it makes it down to the police office and attorneys. If the person in question doesn't want to decrypt their phone, for whatever reason. Does the math in itself meet the bar of guilt, an un-tested system, with perhaps logical algorithms but algorithms, none the less, that likely have never been put under this scale of testing before. An its a black box. "Your guilty" "No I'm not" "Unlock you phone" "No" "Off to Alcatraz for you!". It seems like Apple is taking a weird, position here. "That person has bad things on their phone!" "Oh, an no we won't help you decrypt their phone, to prove it." I'm not taking a particular side here, its a tough question, but I'm certainly confused by the mixed messaging. I'm not sure you can be a hero in both camps Apple. I think like Tom, if your putting it in the cloud and Apple has the keys and give that up, that's another kettle of fish. In that case they can point the finger and provide the keys to prove or disprove the allegation.
