THE BASICS
- Not to be confused with the Smart Keyboard Folio.
- An iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd or 4th generation) or iPad Pro 11-inch (1st or 2nd generation)
- iPadOS 13.4 or later
- Mine is the second to last gen pro, so the only difference is the camera hole.
SETUP
- Simple and easy.
- Powered by the iPad itself. No batteries or additional cables.
- Not bluetooth.
- Sturdy, if a little heavy
PROS
- Passthrough charging at the hinge, or straight into the iPad per usual.
- In effect you get two USB-C ports.
- Trackpad works just how you want it to. Feels really good.
- Keyboard feels really great and better, with more give, than my 2017 Macbook.
- Slim.
- Backlit keys. They sleep after a while too.
- Great on your lap, unlike the folio.
CONS
- VERY expensive. It starts at $299, or $349 for the 12.9-inch version.
- Not too much adjustment on the angle.
- The magnetic pull is not as smooth as it is in the commercials.
- Can’t lay flat like the folio.
- Heavy.
- Would be nice to have a pencil holder rather than just the mag top. (which also makes me want a space grey pencil.)
APP SUPPORT BEST
- CMD tab works like on a mac.
- Most of the apps I use have added usability support for the trackpad, but technically, everything has basic use of it. It’s more useful with some than others.
- Twitter
- Slack
- Teams
- Apple apps (pages, numbers etc)
- Updated firefox is my browser and its great.
- Spark for Email
- Simplenote is a great with it.
NOTE: Art apps don’t really apply...they are still pencil focused.
BAD APPS
- Google Docs
- Google Sheets
- Gmail AppOVERALL
- Like just about everything about it, with nothing really bad, other than I really think it’s just too expensive. But it’s clearly superior to other bluetooth 3rd party options. Just a lot more money.
