Transgender inclusivity and the AI's understanding
Added 2020-10-20 21:45:02 +0000 UTCWhen I first began working on the bot, I didn't have any idea what if any audience it would get. I kept things deliberately simple as a way of testing the concept. However, now that the audience for the bot has grown, the bot itself needs to grow!
I've received a number of requests for the bot to be more gender inclusive, and you're all absolutely right. The original reliance on a strict cis, binary view of gender (and junk!) was simplistic and didn't account for trans people.
To that end, I will be working on adding additional variant plugins for the AIβs language center to both respect and celebrate trans bodies. In order to protect the functionality of the bot and make sure no one's experiences are interrupted though it's going to take some time before these variants are rolled out.
My hope is that in the coming weeks the bot will have complete understanding for a variety of pronouns, gender identities, and the genitals it's working with.
