There's a song by Fleet Foxes, called "White Winter Hymnal". It's a short little simple song with beautiful harmonies that I really love.
For whatever reason, the song instantly gives me a particular feeling of a little house dusted in snow, across the seas and a time ago, from my current Southern California living.
It puts a little movie in my head, involving a German Shepherd family in early 1940's; a mother and her two sons, during a fictional war (inspired by WWII). The father died during the ongoing war, and the eldest brother is left as the "man of the house".
The story focuses on the two brothers, and how they grow up together during this time of war. They're both consciously aware of what's going on around them, but only on a surface level.
