is there a link to the design document for Fallout: Sonora, in English? Interested in the author's design philosophy vs something like New Vegas.

Fallout 1 is my favorite of the classic games, I love how quick and to the point it is, I beat the game in under 20 hours and I dicked around a lot. While fallout 2 is more of the best of fallout 1, I just prefer the first

What is an rpg? Simple. Its a book with rules in it that probably looks kinda like D&D. All video gamey roly play-y games are simply attempts to translate this into the digital format. Fashions reflect this as people take one aspect of table top rpgs they like and fixate on them. Early computer rpgs? Loaded with mechanical focus and dungeoneering, why? that's exactly what D&D was about at the time. Crawling through dungeons. As genre horizons expanded on table top and adventuring that possibly didn't involve dungeons at all became popular, so too did computer rpgs expand. Fallout 1 is of this era, the wild frontier of developing techniques for translating the rpg experience into the digital medium. Originally Fallout was even a part of an existing table top system, GURPS, before this relation was scrapped during development. (look up Vault 13: A GURPS Post-Nuclear Adventure) Things do branch off from here for computer games as the video posits. Table top does this somewhat, but unlike video games, the industry is dominated by the D&D monolith, which was squarely in the "mechanics make the rpg" camp. The zenith of this was D&D 4th edition, an absolutely polished gem by amazing developers that everyone fucking hated. The table top game had become too focused, too perfect. Like any solid object under so much pressure, Dungeons and Dragons shattered in twain. Pathfinder 1e was the loose and limber cousin of D&D 4th edition. When D&D 5e came out, the roles reversed completely. D&D had learned from its mistakes, and learned from pathfinder's success. Pathfinder took note, adapted, and re-specialized into pathfinder 2nd edition, with a mechanical focus that didn't sacrifice appeal. As table top rpgs were stagnating and then rediscovering themselves, digital rpgs were dying out. The great RPG death. And guess when it ended? Not long after D&D 5th edition reached its monumental success. About enough time to make some games perhaps. Coincidence? No. Providence! Straight from the book. And now Baldur's Gate 3 won game of the year. A game which exists very specifically because of the success of D&D 5th edition. Born out of the horny gay internet pit that is the mainstream online traditional rpg community, itself largely a product of Critical Role, Baldur's Gate 3 has nutted all over the gaming industry. I wonder how digital and physical rpgs will adapt to this development? I know the rpg I'm making wont really be affected by this, simply by virtue of how schizo I am. D&D is normie table top anyway.

I'm here to bring up that among classic Fallout games, you didn't consider Fallout Tactics and consider this an inflammatory post against you for discounting a game that not even I would bother to defend

Moto

Noted, I got JA2, arcanum, and restored fallout 2 for the most clout possible.

Damn I didn’t even realize these still existed. When I was a kid I got booted from one for talking shit to people, so don’t do that.

Thanks for the vid!I spose if I took a philosophical crack at it, Fallout 1 is the great war of the series and everything that followed was a genetic mutation that either adapted to survive the great rpg death or subsisted off the remaining niche, now reborn by the og games background radiation. Question of the month also; I plan on going to a game cafe in East Europe on trip, is there any unspoken rules? The meta side of forum/local gaming is my newest adventure

Omg I'm so glad you did fallout one! I'm only a few minutes into the video (I'm on my break at work) and I love it so much already. Special shout-out to "There's only one build" and "the smartest assassin"; it's hilarious

Ariella

Whenever I'm at my lowest, I know Warlockracy got me can I get an amen ✊🏻🙌🏻😭😭😭
