What's Next?
Added 2015-07-09 17:14:30 +0000 UTCHey bosses. Your continuing support blows us away and we are very excited to keep improving the show and increasing the value you see in it.
Here's a little about what's coming up on the schedule and some of the ideas Jennie, myself and the contributors have been brainstorming.
Tom in Seattle-- again
So yes I was supposed to go to Detroit this month but things change. I was also hoping to be able to unveil the project I got hired for too, and that should come soon. In the meantime it's back to Seattle at the end of the month for a few more shoots. That means July 27,28, and 29 you'll be in the capable hands of Veronica, Patrick, and Scott, with special guests. And that leads right into--
Nerdtacular!
I'll be going directly from Seattle to Salt Lake City. So Thursday will be a headlines edition likely recorded in an impromptu location somewhere on the grounds of the Snowbird resort. Then Friday is a supersized DTNS panel with Jennie, Veronica, Patrick, and Justin and questions from the audience.
And if you're going to Nerdtacular AND interested in the special DTNS Nerdtacular shirt, you can order it here: http://dtns.bigcartel.com/product/dtns-at-nerdtacular-2015-shirt and use the code TWOSIDES to skip paying for shipping and pick it up at Nerdtacular.
Tom in Detroit in August?
That means I should be in Detroit sometime in August and I'll let you get Michiganders know as soon as I can.
And then DragonCon!
Yeah, busy summer! 9/3-9/6 I'll be in Atlanta for DargonCOn. That likely means one headlines show and a panel edition of DTNS. Right now it's tentatively on Friday 9/4. More details to come soon
IDEAS!
1. Jennie is putting together a second survey. Probably shorter. Just for kicks. Another way to get feedback.
2. Quarterly meetings? We loved doing the supercast so much we're thinking about doing special quarterly hangouts with whatever contributors can make it. Y'all will get first info on when they would happen.
3. Discussion segments. Been having LOTS of discussions with the contributors about discussion segments. I think of that segment as a chance to different things. SOMETIMES it's expanding on the news of the day but other days it may be interviewing someone about a new technology (like we did for NDN) or deep diving on a concept that's more evergreen or just looking at something a little more off the wall like the Doppel. Anyway, what's your idea for a discussion segment? We can have lots of types and see which ones work best.
Again your support is essential to making what I think has become a special type of show. No network. No advertiser. No strings. We succeed or fail based on how much you think we're worth. We value that tremendously.
On behalf of Jennie, Roger, Veronica, Patrick, Scott, Justin, Darren and Len,
THANK YOU!
Tom

2015-07-09 18:32:05 +0000 UTCCongrats on all the new projects, Tom. Amazing. For discussion segment ideas something I'm always interested in, as you know, is the human side of tech, so sometimes it'd be fun to have that segment devoted to getting to know a particular person in the field (like your meet-the-author segments you've done on S&L) , with a focus on their passion for the tech, and also on their work habits - how they use the tech (or don't) to make their life more efficient and fulfilling.
