Summer time
Added 2014-07-29 00:24:27 +0000 UTCIt’s been an exceptional half year for Daily Tech News Show. In fact, it’s been the only half year ever for Daily Tech news Show. But the fact that it made it to a half year is thanks to you. That is never lost on me. This note is part of my continuing efforts to give you a little early taste of what we’re up to. Jennie and I had a lovely meeting over coffee and a burger last week before ComicCon and went over a few things. 1.) I will be taking my first vacation. As you are my bosses, consider this my vacation request form. From September 4-13 I’ll be in Italy with Eileen. That means I won’t be doing the show. But it doesn’t mean we won’t HAVE a show. 2.) Jennie and I sketched out a plan to pull in a few guests to cover some days and I’ll probably pre-record a few things as well. Suffice to say, that barring catastrophe, we will have shows. They probably won’t stream on the YouTube channel though. So keep your eyes on the Daily Tech News Show channel. 3.)Also we’re talking about maybe formalizing some co-hosts on some days. You know, as regulars. How would you feel about that? I’m even thinking of making it a level in the Patreon. The idea is to have a regular schedule and be able to go out and get more reporters to drop in for one segment and explain what’s going on with their story. What do you think? We’re also toying around with merchandise ideas. Is there anything besides t-shirts y’all would want? As patrons I’d be inclined to comp certain levels of backing so this isn’t all about getting more money out of you. Just having cool stuff and maybe a way folks who can’t afford a regular Patreon subscription could back the show. I ask all of this, not because I’m unsure, but because I want to hear your thoughts before we make a decision. You’re a large part of why this show exists so you deserve that. Thanks again for being so fantastic. Talk to you soon. Tom and Jennie

On the merchandizing angle, coffee mugs are a natural, but since I'm not a coffee drinker: beer glasses and smaller cold tasty beverage glasses. (Perhaps shot glasses. I have a friend that collects them. Rarely uses them, but collects them.) Mouse pads come to mind as many of us are in tech using PCs every day. Also, using some of the Len Peralta art in place of the DTNS logo on some of the above would be nice, too.

2014-09-01 13:40:31 +0000 UTCHola! Have fun on your vacation! Approved! I really like the co-hosts idea. It would be great to have Molly on regularly (2 wks in a row...we're spoiled now!), and Len on Fridays is always good! Your normal lineup of guests is good, so keep it up plz! Reporters are OK. Specialists for deeper issues are always a plus (Steve G. for example). Keep up the excellent work!

2014-08-28 18:29:28 +0000 UTCI'm a little late but, Thanks for the great work, vacation approved! It's a pretty tall order, but I would LOVE a Len Peralta drawn, cartoonized smilin' Tom Merritt coffee mug with something clever or even "Thanks Boss!" written on it for purchase. Love Darren, Len, Iyaz, Veronica and really enjoy all the guests. Special thanks to Jenny for her hard work as well! Love y'all

2014-08-18 01:52:51 +0000 UTCIf you could it would be great to have a Patreon once a month be on the show with you. Its like having someone from the general public comment on the top stories of the day. Have a great vacation Tom you deserve it!!

2014-08-02 02:14:27 +0000 UTCTom, you deserve some time off man. You work so hard. Just promise that you will actually relax and not worry about how things are going at the office. It took me a few years to realize how important that is. On the merch, I would love a coffee mug, either as an option to purchase or reward. I have been using the same caffeine mug for 10 years from Think Geek, so could use an update! If it's clothing, make sure there are options for colors other than black. Not sure the last time I wore black. On the co-hosts, I love Darren (and Len) on Fridays already. I would be a huge advocate for getting Veronica on regularly. Lamarr is fantastic! I liked what he did for a short time at TWiT, and when he is a guest, he really adds a lot. A stretch to get, but who doesn't miss Iyaz...? Overall, you guys are doing great! Looking forward to hearing you had a super relaxing vacation on the shows to follow your time off. Keep up the great work Jennie and Tom! Cheers!

2014-07-31 19:41:41 +0000 UTCSo happy that things are going well. We are jealous of your vacation! What an adventure! Being a geek lite person, I don't have any suggestions. Like everything you've come up with/done so far. As far as cohosts, that's a good idea. And for merchandise... a tall coffee carafe, and a 32 oz water bottle sit on my desk all day, so, thinking of 'advertising' DTNS that way... I would say, 'keep up the good work', but, you always do. That's why we listen & watch... Hey to Eileen and Jennie! Tim Magnuson magtimmag in the chats/etc

2014-07-30 13:04:59 +0000 UTCI really like the idea of getting reporters/experts in to discuss some of the more complex stories. I also realise that whilst it would be more work for you and Jennie, sometime one story swamps the news and it might be worth extending the show or having a Special to get into the real details (Heartbleed and NSA would be a good example). Some regular co-hosts would be good and have a great holiday.

2014-07-30 07:49:40 +0000 UTC3) I think co-hosts are a great idea. Personally my favorites are Justin and/or Veronica for a steady co-host/s position.

2014-07-30 02:08:27 +0000 UTCI like the co-host idea, though like any boss, I'm picky about the talent. Some of my favorite, in no particular order: Darren "Bob's Your Uncle" Kitchen, Molly, Patrick, Tim Stevens, and Veronica would all be great to have. There are of course many deserving others, too. For merchandise, here are a few ideas: phone cases, sticker decals -- not just for cars any more, backpack computer bags, and portable chargers. Enjoy your well deserved vacation -- I took one this year, too!
