If Adventures wins, these will be the adventures that can then be voted on for November:

    • Out of the Abyss

    • Descent into Avernus

    • Dragon Heist

Needle's Bones

To kick off our first scene for August's Tomb of the Annihilation month, we have Needle's Bones!

"Needle's Bones was a massive grotto, resembling a sinkhole, located in the jungles of Chult. Originally, this landmark served as the lair of the green dragon Ormalagos." - Source

Fey Tavern

Nestled deep within an ancient hollowed-out tree, the Fey Tavern hums with quiet life. Mushroom-capped tables and leafy rugs fill the space, while soft light filters through a vine-crafted window. Strange brews bubble behind a curved wooden bar, tended by unseen hands. The air smells of moss, sweet herbs, and something just a little bit magical.

Catacombs

You enter a dark, underground chamber filled with stone coffins. Old banners hang from the walls, and cobwebs stretch across the corners. The room is cold and quiet, with only a few torches giving off a dim, flickering light. At the far end, a stone tomb sits on a raised platform, watched over by a statue in armor. The air smells damp, and you can hear water dripping somewhere in the distance.

Rakshasa Lair

This old stone mansion sits hidden in the jungle, partly overgrown but still grand. Vines creep down from the balconies, and a golden dome shines above. It looks peaceful at first...but something feels off, like you're being watched. This is the lair of a Rakshasa, and not everything here is what it seems.

Astral Pub

Suspended in the endless shimmer of the Astral Sea, this curious tavern clings to a floating rock pierced by glowing crystal spires. Wooden walkways groan underfoot, connecting platforms and staircases that wind around the pub’s worn stone walls. Lanterns flicker with golden light, welcoming travelers from across the planes to drink, deal, and disappear.

Snowy Ruins

Snow clings to the broken stones of a long-forgotten structure, its skeletal walls reaching skyward through the frost. Cold mist drifts between the crumbling arches, and the silence of the forest presses in close, broken only by the crunch of boots on the frozen earth. Something ancient lingers here, buried beneath ice and ruin, waiting to be discovered.

Elven Forest

Sunlight filters through the dense emerald canopy, casting shifting patterns on the forest floor. At the heart of this ancient elven forest stands a crumbling stone ruin. An elegant archway of once-great craftsmanship, now entwined with vines and guarded by towering trees. The air is filled with birdsong and the distant rush of a waterfall, while a quiet, lingering magic clings to the overgrown path, hinting at a sacred purpose long forgotten.

Behind The Scenes: How To Write Using Art First by William Tramp

There are a lot of tools we GMs have at our disposal and one I find particularly useful is art.

Sometimes, art is used as a reaction: I have an adventure, find appropriate art, and use it as visual aids. But what about using the art as a starting point?

That’s what I did for the Cult of the Shattered Keel.

The End

At the time of starting this, I was running a game in which the players needed to travel from the big city to a smaller...

Valley Prison

Set deep in a frozen valley, the prison looms behind thick stone walls and frost-covered towers. Snow drifts pile high against iron gates, and the wind cuts through the silence like a blade. It’s a place built to be forgotten. Harsh, cold, and inescapable.

Baldurs Gate II

In late 2019, I posted my first location scene of Baldurs Gate:

"I can honestly say I was a little intimidated going into this location. Such an iconic city in the history of Dungeons and Dragons and with so much amazing artwork detailing the city already out there. To me, Baldurs Gate is the iconic sea port, and I knew I needed to try to express this in the story o...

Hilltop Tomb

An ancient stone tomb rests atop a mist-shrouded hill, its weathered steps lead into a shadowed entrance. Surrounded by sparse, wind-bent trees and creeping fog, the air is thick with the weight of mystery and long-buried secrets.

Gates to the Underworld

You find yourself in a massive stone chamber, quiet except for the crackle of fire. Ahead looms a towering set of dark, ancient doors carved with strange symbols. Flames burn steadily in old braziers, casting warm light on the cold stone walls and long shadows across the floor. A wide staircase leads up to the gate, each step echoing underfoot. Faint beams of light break through from above, barely reaching the sealed entrance. Whatever lies behind those doors hasn't been disturbed in a very l...
