Woodelf Update! BTS #86

Hello, mini family!

Apologies I skipped last week's BTS post. I was exclusively editing the Kill Your Friends episode that published today. I actually hadn't painted any miniatures until my stream last Friday; it was a somewhat weird experience. Anyways, as some of you know I'm working on a couple wood elf characters and currently am working on the witch character. I was recently given full renders of the whole character and that's pretty exciting!

It's a pretty awesome looking character, but this is where we got after several rounds of revisions, almost entirely with the face, but also in some other areas.

You can see the progression from left to right. I'm a little out of my element because I don't really know anatomy, and even less so facial anatomy. It's hard to give feedback to a sculptor as to what's going wrong. To me it was clear that the leftmost example is very masculine, so we took a look at the concept art and tried to get closer and closer adjusting things like the angularity of the jaw, how peaked the eyebrows are, the size of the mouth/lips, how large the nose is, etc. The face is still being worked on, most notably the "duck lips" she has going on are hopefully going to be straightened out in the next example. 

I started to work on another video after KYF and it's the video game video with the character from Heroes of Newerth, an older game I played for almost a decade.

The character looks pretty cool, and as always, I'm excited to see it finished. Fayde features a lot of purples, magentas, purple skin, glowy yellow eyes, and more, but I'm pretty comfortable with those types of details so I think it'll turn out well. Lastly, I tried to get funky with my rhino slider recently.

I have my slider rigged vertically on a light stand so the high torque motor will pull the rig up and down and you can get some pretty cool reveal shots this way rising out of the desk for instance to reveal something going on. Turns out I'm missing a piece of kit for this to work correctly, but once I have it, I'll have some pretty slick shots. That's all for now.
